From the Nickelodeon kids show, Doug, we had a running part of the program in a cute Beatles parody called the “Beets”. It may have gone over the kids’ heads, but the quartet not only channeled George, Paul, John and Ringo but gave us cute and original songs. That gives them more merit than most other animated bands here. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Doug (1991-96) Actor: The Fictitious Band: Monroe Yoder (Guitar and Vocals) Clyde “Chap” Lipman (Drums) Wendy Nespah (Keyboards) Flounder (Bass) Songs you might remember: Killer Tofu I Sneezed on My Sock Why you should vote for them: This was a very cute effort, and is still remembered. Why you should not vote for them: This might be too far on the juvenile side for the people who will vote here. {youtube}

Part Bowie, part transvestite and part diva, the character of Beef was in the wrong place at the wrong time as evidenced by his death by neon lightning bolt on stage. Actually, that doesn’t sound like a bad way to go. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Phantom of the Paradise (1974) Actors: Gerrit Graham Raymond Louis Kennedy (Singing Voice) Songs you might remember: Life at Last Why you should vote for him: Chances are the laughs you had during the film was because of Beef. Why you should not vote for him: He is low on the list in a film that may generate no inductees. {youtube}

Utilizing the common TV plot device that ages children without explanation, the children of the Flintstones and Rubbles were now troublemaking teenagers who had their own Bubblegum Pop group, with their three friends (Moonrock, Penny and Wiggy). They were a little late to cash in on that genre of Pop, but their animated show did a little better than most. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show (1971-72) Actors: Sally Struthers (Pebbles) Jay North (Bamm-Bamm) Songs you might remember: Yabba Dabba Doozie Why you should vote for them: Only if you are a Flintstones fan. Why you should not vote for them: There are better Bubblegum representatives than this. {youtube}

In one of the most famous Simpsons episodes of all time, we learn of Homer’s past singing career as a member of the successful Barbershop Quartet, The Be Sharps. How successful were they? Well, they had a major hit (Baby on Board) and won the Grammy for Soul, Spoken Word and Barber Shop Quartet! Of course, like all successful Barber Shop groups; they were a victim of their own success, and a Yoko Ono lookalike. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: The Simpsons (1993) Actors: Singing Voices: The Dapper Dans The Fictional Band: Homer Simpson Barney Gumble Seymour Skinner Apu Neehasapeemapetilon Songs you might remember: Baby on Board Why you should vote for them: Come on, they won a Grammy!
