Nick Rivers

Nick Rivers
From the creators of “Airplane”, Top Secret was a laugh a minute spoof that parodies Cold War movies as well as it roasted Elvis Presley films. Val Kilmer starred as Nick Rivers, the film’s main protagonist and 50’s singing teen idol that arrives in East Germany for a concert and winds up associated with the French Resistance. Sounds like a plausible series of events don’t you think?

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Top Secret! (1984)

Actor:
Val Kilmer

Songs you might remember:
Are You Lonesome Tonight?
Spend This Night With Me Baby Please

Why you should vote for him:
This is the best chance to induct a comedic spoof.

Why you should not vote for him:
The singing was goofy, and for some the worst part of the film.

Nick Cooper

Nick Cooper
A once successful American Rock singer looks to an English country house to escape his issues (failed career and failed marriage) and work on a career comeback. Of course this means…we have a horror movie about to unfold. The casting was good as the lead (Jack Jones) had not had a hit in a decade; though he would have his final one three years later with (seriously) the Love Boat Theme. We could induct him for that cheesy fact alone.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
The Comeback (1978)

Actor:
Jack Jones

Songs you might remember:
None

Why you should vote for him:
If all we have is the Love Boat card, we guess we don’t have much.

Why you should not vote for him:
Did anybody actually see this?

The New Main Street Singers

New Main Street Singers The
From the brilliant mockumentary, A Mighty Wind, we have the “New Main Street Singers” who as the name suggests are the new incarnation of the Main Street Singers. This folk group continues to perform, though they have not been overly successful. Still, when you have a group of actors who are this gifted, you can’t help but pay attention to everything they did on screen. We know that we did.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
A Mighty Wind (2003)

Actors:
Paul Dooley (George Menschell)
Jane Lynch (Laurie Bohner)
John Michael Higgins (Terry Bohner)
Parker Posey (Sissy Knox)
Mark Monisa (Mike Maryama)

Songs you might remember:
Never Did No Wandering

Why you should vote for them:
This was a fun group of acting talent.

Why you should not vote for them:
They did not have a signature song in the film.

The Nerds

Nerds The
One of the best regular sketches from the early years of Saturday Night Live were the “nerd” characters played by Gilda Radner and Bill Murray. What many forget is that their debut performance of this bit is that along with regular host, Steve Martin they were trying to push their band’s album and make it in the Rock and Roll world. Needless to say, their “album” was not picked up and “I’ll Give You My Lunch Money” never made it to the top ten on Billboard.

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
Saturday Night Live (1977)

Actors:
Bill Murray (Todd DiLamuca)
Gilda Radner (Lisa Loopner)
Steve Martin (Charles Knerlman)

Songs you might remember:
I’ll Give You My Lunch Money

Why you should vote for them:
Bill Murray is a god for many. Count us among them.

Why you should not vote for them:
This is an iconic series of characters, but how many remember that this is how they started?
