While some would classify the Mars Volta as Progressive Rock, many viewed the band from El Paso as “Experimental Rock”.
From the ashes of At the Drive In, The Mars Volta did not exactly follow their predecessor but did blaze their own path in concept albums and varying brands of experimental rock and roll. That is a strong niche but not exactly a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame entry.
