Current Rock and Roll Inductees (256)

The twenty eighth selection returns us back to the never ending Rock and Roll Hall of Fame question of inducting Progressive Rock acts. As a key player in the Progressive Rock movement; Yes was an impressive outfit regardless of which lineup they had.
Surprisingly, it is not uncommon for a musician to have their biggest hit after they passed away. We wonder if the Zombies could identify on some level, as they achieved their biggest success after they disbanded.
With music that was pure Texas, ZZ Top’s blend of Blues, Hard Rock, and unique Tex Mex influences made them stars in the 70’s.  The 1983 album, Eliminator brought them international stardom when they altered their sound to crack mainstream radio and MTV; a feat they accomplished without alienating their core audience.
With our next selection we know that we are again breaking traditional Rock protocol. However, sometimes an artist just has a certain intangible that just makes you like them even though his music sounds like nothing else in your CD (then MP3, and now streaming) collection. We here at the Not in Hall of Fame can’t help but think that Willie…
Is it possible to be important to look like a Rock Star than to actually sing like one? With Pat Benatar, there was no question that she looked like a Rocker, and her early 80’s music was certainly Rock as well. We wondered aloud though, if she didn’t have the look she did, would we know who she was today?
Since her debut album in 1992, Mary J. has shown an evolution from a streetwise Hip Hop star to a Soulful Diva.  Her tough sexuality has made her an icon and her career progression shows no signs of slowing down.  The amazing this is with Mary J. Blige’s progression she kept her initial fans while obtaining new ones.  This type…
Before she became a punch line due to her “Psychic Friends”, Dionne Warwick was known for her distinctive sophisticated singing voice that may have defined what Adult Contemporary music. That may prove to her main obstacle for induction as there is no doubt that she had an impact with her multiple chart hits, she may not have been a huge…
Considered one of the biggest icons of British Blues, John Mayall may be revered far more as a mentor than as a performer. The large string of British Blues Rock stars that were inspired or taught by Mayall is an endless one. John Mayall and his Bluesbreakers certainly recorded a lot of material, but he will likely go down in…
We can hear the groans with this selection already. Chances are that if you were a music lover in the 80’s you either loved this band or despised them. If you loved them, you likely had teased hair and envisioned “LeBon” as your future last name. If you hated them, you likely spent a lot of time in the smoker’s…
When the NIHOF committee gathered to discuss our next entrant we did what we could to forget the terrible Mark Wahlberg movie (Rock Star) that was loosely based on them. Instead we chose to focus on how important Judas Priest was in Heavy Metal’s progression.
There are a few performers in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame who got in on the strength of one album, or in the rare case only ever made one album. Link Wray is the only one on this list that we feel comfortable pushing for induction based on just one song. Seriously, the influence of his instrumental song,…
Fans of Popular music often try to emulate the singing styles of their favorite performers. Kate Bush had legions of fans, but many of them probably never tried to sing like her. They knew it couldn’t be done.
Our next artist may have the longest career on this list but would mot surprise us if she generated the least amount of respect. Of course, it seems like Cher has been fighting for respect her entire career.
While compiling this list, non committee members asked us about out ranking and pointed out albums sales as to why our rankings made no sense to them. As often as those debates began (and will perpetually continue) we expect a series of debates based on concert attendance. If that was our factor, how many people would be higher than Jimmy…
If it is true that “You’re So Vain” is about David Geffen (Not who we thought it would be either), the only question we have left is could she be the next Singer/Songwriter in the Hall.
Although these days Lionel Richie might be best known for being Nicole Richie’s father, it can not be underestimated just how much Lionel Richie dominated the FM dial in the 1980’s. Lionel’s career had a meteoric rise upon leaving the Commodores and his R&B flavored Soft Rock was a favorite among the vinyl buying public. Richie however may not have…
