Your both right to a degree. Twisted was a bar band started 73-74 influenced by Kiss & Alice cooper & played in the same clubs as new York dolls etc made there Break though 82-85 so was classified Glam Metal. After Crue & Def Leppard (now Bon Jovi is ProBally going in this year) there on a short list of bands that's couldn't be considered if the Hall looks more at this genre. Ratt Poison Dokken cinderla skid row warrant tesla quiet riot whitesnake would be the others with any chance.
Agree that Def Leppard and then Motley Crue would be most likely to get in if the Hall ever acknowledges hair-metal, though after them Ratt would be a stronger candidate in my book than Twisted Sister.
I wouldn't put T. Rex and the Dolls in that grouping as they are the precursors, and you could even look at Slade and (the) Sweet as being the direct antecedents to the '80s hair-metal bands--thoug h I'd put Mott the Hoople above them all.
I do have a lasting respect for Dee Snider, though, because he testified before the US Senate during a 1985 hearing on "porn rock" and the content-labe ling of music albums--whic h is still with us today--drive n by the Parents Music Resource Center, co-founded by future Second Lady Tipper Gore.
Snider was one of only three rock musicians to testify before the Senate, joining John Denver and Frank Zappa. Let that sink in for a moment--can you picture three more dissimilar musicians than that?
I only wish that Cyndi Lauper had joined them--walkin g into the US Capitol together, they would have looked like a psychedelic Dorothy and the Scarecrow, Tin Woodsman, and Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz. Spark up a joint, put on The Dark Side of the Moon, and sit back and enjoy the show! And Lauper would have been appropriate as her terrific "She Bop" was one of the "Filthy Fifteen" songs initially identified by the PMRC as being "porn rock."
