As the British Invasion dominated the 60’s, few American bands seemed able to stand up to them. The Turtles were one of those bands that were successful in doing so; even though many casual fans may have thought they were British.
Most fans remember the Turtles for their smash hit Happy Together and many today may incorrectly view them as a one hit wonder of their era. The Turtles were actually a very accomplished band that borrowed from Folk, Pop and Rock and had many hits throughout the 60’s though none as remotely large as Happy Together. Their amount of hits in the 60’s certainly helps their cause but they don’t seem to have the legacy required that others of their era seem to possess.
