Puttin’ on the Ritz
Highest Billboard Position:
#4 in 1983

There will always be nostalgia in Pop Culture, especially in music.  Generally, when this happens the artist(s) appropriates the musical style of the generation before.  In the case of Taco, he looked to cover a standard from the late 1920’s, nearly sixty years prior.

Taco (yes that was his real name) took old jazz standards and decimated them in a synthesizer.  The results felt like Marty McFly really did wreck the space time continuum, and modern music was the victim.  Somehow, this bizarre hybrid generated a hit as listeners had never heard this before and propelled the strange European to a hit.  However we know what happens with novelty ideas don’t we?  Basically, we don’t need to hear them again, and Taco lame act (that really was all he did) came to end.  Don’t feel too bad for him, as he is probably serving tacos somewhere in Eastern Europe.
