58. Trio
Da Da Da
Highest Billboard Position:
#33 in 1982

From this site you can see that we are a fan of the German Krautrock band, Kraftwerk, whose electronic manipulation and minimalist approach helped to create new musical genres.  Of course like anything successful, it spawned imitators and most copies are generally horrid.  The German band Trio attempted to take minimalism as far as it could go and the result was something that any four year old come up with.

The song Da Da Da, used a basic preprogrammed beat which was on a continuous loop.  Amazingly, the lyrics are even more basic featuring the gem “Da Da Da. I don’t love you. You don’t love me. Da Da Da.” over and over again.  It is the lather, rinse and repeat of pop culture songs.  Trio claims the song is part of “New German Cheerfulness” which could be the root of the problem right there.  Germans are supposed to be cranky and drunk, not happy and warm!  Nowadays, when Germans are happy it is usually due to fighting or leather bound scat films.  Thankfully, Trio disbanded two years later and we were spared their brilliance again.
