49. Toby Keith

Americans get a real bad rap.  Many people view them as war loving and ignorant, and the basic fact is when you have a country as diverse and as populated as the United States you will have a wide cross section of people.  Sad fact is, there are many non-Americans who would hear Toby Keith’s “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue” and think that he speaks for all of the U.S..

Lyrically speaking, it can be easily imagined that this mess was uttered by people wearing camouflage and sporting mullets. “This big dog will fight, when you rattle his cage. And you’ll be sorry that you messed with the U S of A.  ‘Cause we’ll put a boot in your ass It’s the American way” does not exactly make the listener think that diplomacy (or even rational thinking) exists here.  The Dixie Chicks were embarrassed by George Bush being from Texas; though they should be more embarrassed that Toby Keith was considered to be of the same musical genre as them.
