We have another major retirement in the world of sports and it comes to us again from Detroit. Although Magglio Ordonez will not be a sure Hall of Famer like Nicklas Lidstrom was (who retired from the Red Wings earlier in the week), he will appear on the ballot and does have a career to be proud of.
The native Venezuelan retires with 2,156 Hits, 294 Home Runs and a career .309 Batting Average. With Six All Star Appearances, Ordonez was a solid contributor in the middle of both White Sox and Tiger lineups for years. He is unlikely to get past the first ballot, but he does a career worth celebrating.
