Odelein was a good fit for the defensive-minded Devils, and he perfected his lockdown skills while forgoing his offensive ability. He missed out on New Jersey's first Stanley Cup because he was traded to them a year later. In the season when New Jersey won their second, he was dealt to Phoenix at the trading deadline.
With that being said, as a Devil, Odelein finished in the top ten in Defensive Point Shares twice and had 86 Points in total for the team.
