McKay played 80 Games for the Detroit Red Wings, though it was relatively unremarkable. He was sent to New Jersey as part of the compensation when the Red Wings signed Troy Crowder, and the arbitrator assisted the Devils with sending McKay.
The Right Wing was used to intimidate and check, and if he needed to score, he had that in his arsenal, too. McKay had over 200 Penalty Minutes in his first three years in Jersey, and he would later help the Devils win two Stanley Cups (1995 & 2000). His best season was 1997-98, when he had a career-high 48 Points and was tenth in Frank J. Selke voting.
McKay was traded to Dallas during the 2001-02 season, and he would have 322 Points in 760 Games for New Jersey.
