gold star for USAHOF

23. John Ogrodnick

23. John Ogrodnick

The Detroit Red Wings were not a very good hockey team in the first half of the 1980s, but they did have John Ogrodnick, who was their best scorer at the time.

A five-time All-Star and one-time Second Team All-Star, Ogrodnick first played for Detroit in the 1979/80 season after being taken in the Fourth Round of that year’s draft. The Left Wing had three straight 40 Goal years beginning in 1982-83, peaking with a 105 Point year in 1984-85. He would also have two top-five finishes in Lady Byng voting.

Ogrodnick was traded to Quebec in 1987 and returned for a final NHL season in 1992, though his skills had degraded, and he was only there for 19 Games.  Overall, Ogrodnick scored 546 Points in 558 Games in Detroit.
