gold star for USAHOF

37. Brian Campbell

37. Brian Campbell

One of the best values of the 1997 Draft was Brian Campbell, a Defenseman who the Buffalo Sabres took in the Sixth Round.

Campbell first made it to the Sabres in the 1999-00 Season, but it was not for another three seasons before the blueliner was a regular player at hockey’s highest level.  He had his breakthrough campaign in 2005-06, leading the power play and scoring 44 Points.  He broke that number the year after with 48 Points, and went to his first All-Star Game.  Campbell was an All-Star again in 2008, but his contract was set to expire, and the Sabres did not think he would resign with them.  He was dealt to San Jose shortly after, and he finished his year with 62 Points and a Second Team All-Star Selection.

Sadly, for the Sabres, Campbell’s career continued to thrive as he would win a Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks, and a Lady Byng with the Panthers.
