gold star for USAHOF

35. Maxim Afinogenov

35. Maxim Afinogenov

From Russia, Maxim Afinogenov proved to be a pretty sweet choice for the Buffalo Sabres, who grabbed him in the Third Round in 1997.

Afinogenov debited for Buffalo in 1999, and the Right Wing scored 34 Points as a rookie.  He played for the Sabres for the next nine seasons, and after providing respectable mid-line production for a few years, he had back-to-back 60-Point-plus years (73 & 61) in 2005-06 & 2006-07, where Afinogenov was one of the best offensive players for Buffalo.

He slumped afterward, and he departed for Atlanta in a rebound year (2009-10) before going back home to Russia and playing in the KHL.

Afinogenov would give Buffalo over 500 Games 354 Points over his ten seasons with the team.
