25. Mike Peca

25. Mike Peca

After 37 games with the Vancouver Canucks, Mike Peca was traded to the Buffalo Sabres as part of the deal that sent Alexander Mogilny the other way.

Peca scored 31 Points in his first full year in Buffalo, and while he grew it to 49 Points in his second year, he was dazzling the league with his penalty killing and led the NHL in Short-Handed Goals (6).  Peca won the Frank J. Selke Trophy that year, and he finished in the top five in voting for that award in the next three seasons while keeping his scoring over 40 Points.  The Center had proven himself as one of the top defensive-forwards in hockey, but his stint in Buffalo was coming to an end.

Peca and Sabres management could not agree on a contract, and Peca sat out an entire year rather than report back to Buffalo, who still held his rights.  The Center was traded before the 2001-02 season to the New York Islanders, and he would immediately capture his second Selke Trophy.

With the Sabres, Peca scored 217 Points, 26 of which were short-handed.
