gold star for USAHOF

5. Mike Ramsey

5. Mike Ramsey

A member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Team that shocked the sporting world and won the Gold Medal, Mike Ramsey had already played at a top NCAA program with the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Taken 11th Overall in 1979, Mike Ramsey transformed his amateur game from offensive Defenseman to stay-at-home Defenseman, which was incredible considering the freewheeling scoring of the 1980s.  Ramsey was still rewarded, going to four All-Star Games as a Sabre, and he still managed five 30-Point seasons with Buffalo.

Ramsey played 911 Regular Season Games for the Sabres before he was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins for their 1993 playoff run.  With Buffalo, Ramsey had 329 Points with a Plus/Minus of +166.  The Sabres selected Ramsey for their Hall of Fame in 2001.
