77. Tim Thomas
Here is another interesting one.  The always controversial and outspoken Tim Thomas was quite a story becoming an elite netminder at age 34 and having two spectacular seasons in pro hockey when most players have hung up the pads.  Thomas is one of the rare players to win two Vezina Trophies and backstopped the Boston Bruins to a Stanley Cup win, however, the reality is that his run at the top was too brief to cement a Hall of Fame spot…though stranger things have happened.

The Hall is fickle. It is very hard to make it in if you're a goalie. Outside of Roy, Hasek, Brodeur and Belfour, few goalies that played in the same generation, or after, have made it. A guy like Curtis Joseph with 454 wins hasn't gotten in. He lacks Thomas' hardware, but he finished 2nd, 3rd (twice), 4th and 5th in the Vezina.
Thomas lacks the career stats, sure. But he had two absolutely dominant seasons, winning the Vezina twice, the Conn Smythe once while winning the Cup in 2011. Two first -team All Star selections. And 31 shutouts in only 260 career starts is pretty fantastic. If the Hall exists to honor greatness, Thomas should get some consideratio n. Sandy Koufax made it into Cooperstown with a 5 year window of greatness. Thomas reached the pinnacle of his profession twice in a short time.

He has all of the relevant individual awards and honors the other goalies ahead of him on the list don't - Stanley Cup, Conn Smythe Trophy, Vezina Trophy (2), and 1st team all-star (2). The only other goalie in NHL history to earn all four in the same season was Bernie Parent twice. What hurts him is he did not cement a spot in the NHL until he was 31 so he doesn't have lofty career numbers. There have been a number of forwards without lofty career numbers inducted in the past decade, so I'm sure why Thomas' short term dominance would be considered lacking.
