Like many Alternative bands, Grandaddy was at their best when they merged old with new.  Their most praised work showcased their ability to use Electronic textures over a Folksy type sound.  Lyrically, they followed a similar vein exploring technology from seemingly a rural American point of view.  They were a good and quirky little band but that is not the type that the Hall looks for.  It doesn’t help their cause that they didn’t seem to be the most influential band and with them currently disbanded they will not have the opportunity to add to their discography.

The limited chances of Godspeed You Black Emperor may depend on how much the Post-Rock genre (that of using traditional Rock instruments for non traditional Rock melodies) goes.  GYBE is known as being on the forefront of that genre and if that ever takes on a higher profile they would be a solid representative.  While it isn’t likely to happen, this is a very interesting group with a good catalogue of music.

The Fugees have been called a one album wonder, and that is a statement that bears a bit of truth as their debut album in 1994 was not popular nor was it that critically acclaimed.  However, the album that was considered to be that one album of greatness (The Score) was a brilliant effort that was amongst the best that Hip Hop had to offer. 

Like Nick Drake before him, Elliott Smith made a living making introspective and often morose songs.  Smith touched many a soul by digging inside of his own.  Sadly, as much as he sang of his depression, he was unable to control it and like so many artists he died young although it is still uncertain whether it was suicide (though likely).  As one of the most celebrated songwriters of his time, he could receive a shot, but our feeling is that Nick Drake would have to get in first.
