From the MTV animated series, Daria, we have the alternative rock band Mystik Spiral. The band made a brief appearance in one episode but proved popular enough to make regular appearances throughout the series. They don’t come across as a success, though they constantly seem to get gigs, had their own website and even a fan club. The question here is how popular Daria is with those who visit here. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Daria (1997-2001) Actors: Alvaro J. Gonzalez (Trent Lane, Lead Vocals) Unknown Voice (Jesse Moreno, Lead Guitar) Unknown Voice (Max Tyler, Drums) Unknown Voice (Nicholas Campbell, Bass) Songs you might remember: Behind My Eyelids Freakin Friends Why you should vote for them: This fictitious band has a fictitious fan club. Why you should not vote for them: Daria was a hit on MTV, but is it even remembered that much today? {youtube}

Dyan Cannon still looked great in her late 40’s, and was cast as a housewife turned pop star in Rock and Roll Mom. Through a turn of events, she cuts a demo record, and the producers thought it was too good not to promote; though not by a 49 year old unknown. Even though she was still gorgeous, Rock is a young person’s game and they put a mask on her, dubbed her “Mystere” and she took her rockin’ body on the road. This wasn’t a great film, but it was cute for what it was. The Bullet Points: TV Movie Appeared: Rock and Roll Mom (1988) Actor: Dyan Cannon Songs you might remember: You’re Mine Tonight Why you should vote for her: This song wasn’t terrible. Why you should not vote for her: If all we have is “this song wasn’t terrible” there is a reason right there. {youtube}

We didn’t hear much of Murph and the Magic Tones, but our brief viewing of them at a Holiday Inn lounge told us that they would always be better off Joliet Jake and Elwood, even if they weren’t making any money. The Bullet Points: Movies Appeared: The Blues Brothers (1980) Actors: Murphy Dunne Tom “Bones” Malone Willie “Too Big” Hall Steve “The Colonel” Cropper Donald “Duck” Dunn Songs you might remember: Quando, Quando, Quando Why you should vote for them: They were part of the Blues Brothers, which should count for a lot. Why you should not vote for them: Literally, Murph and the Magic Tones sold out. {youtube}

Allowing the quirky, yet super cute and talented Zooey Deschanel to showcase her singing chops, Munchausen by Proxy was an eccentric band that had a very small but devoted audience. Deschanel was backed by the real band, Von Iva, and had four songs on the soundtrack. If quirky is what this Hall is about, than pencil them in right now. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Yes Man (2008) Actor: Zooey Deschanel (Allison) Von Iva (Backing Band) Songs you might remember: Yes Man Why you should vote for them: Music may not have been a big part of the film, but this was a unique band, that got some solid play in the film. Why you should not vote for them: As mentioned above, music was not the focus of this film. {youtube}
