Through the magic of cinema, a lowly American Las Vegas lounge singer Ralph Jones (John Goodman) takes over as the King of England. The film was predictable, but Goodman was likable and brought a little bit of a Rock and Roll attitude with a solid rendition of Good Golly Miss Molly. Still, when people think of this film, they are not likely to remember the music; that works against his induction case.

The critics destroyed the Bodyguard, but the film going public flocked to it in droves. The movie propelled Whitney Houston to the biggest she would ever be and her first starring role as diva, Rachel Marron showed the world that she could act, and her singing pipes were at full steam with her version of “I Will Always Love You” rocketing to the top of the charts as well as the album taking over as the highest selling soundtrack of all time. Those kind of sales could translate into a Hall of Fame spot, couldn’t it? We will let you decide that one!

You had to know that any child of Hank Moody would have a lot of artistic ability right? Becca Moody (Madeline Martin) was recruited to join an all-girl Rock band led by Pearl (Zoe Kravitz) and this band was surprisingly good, which actually led to a few people wondering if the band was in fact real. They aren’t, but for a brief moment in time, we forgot about Hank’s sexual exploits.

Mel’s Rockpile was one of our favorite running sketches on SCTV. Watching the confused and nerdy host, Mel Slirrup try to connect with the kids was a great send up of the many shows from that time frame that featured hosts nearly as clueless. Mel would have a lot of musical guests and with the possible exception of Richard Harris; we were fond of the Punk Band, the Queenhaters who well…hated the Queen. We only saw them once, and we don’t know any of the band member’s names but it certainly struck a chord with us.
