The Real Deal

Real Deal The
The final film of Bernie Mac’s career saw him pair up with Samuel L. Jackson as the backup singers of a Motown band called “The Real Deal”. Decades later after the passing of their lead singer who had long since left them and became a huge success (played by John Legend) they reunite and go on tour and make it to the famed Apollo Theatre, though of course with the standard trials and tribulations you would expect along the way since they have not spoken to each other in thirty years. This didn’t do well at the box office (isn’t that the case always after someone died?) and since Jackson is in every other movie we aren’t sure how well remembered this is.

Rayna Jaymes

Rayna Jaymes
It does not matter how famous you are. Eventually, somebody younger and more attractive is going to take your place. This is where we first meet Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton) who is the “Queen of Country” who is falling from her perch.

It is a great role, where Jaymes’ singing is only a backdrop, as her personal life is far more interesting, with issues with her father, husband and everything else you can imagine. Britton does a great job here, and could be a dark horse for our Hall of Fame; should you consider her Rock enough!

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
Nashville (2012-)

Actors:
Connie Britton

Songs you might remember:
Stompin’ Grounds

Why you should vote for her:
This is a legend in the world of Fictitious Country music.

Why you should not vote for her:
The country factor could come in play here.

Ray High

Ray High
In Pete Townshend’s Concept Album/Concert Film, Pyschoderelict, we learn of the story of Ray High, a 60’s rock star whose life has fallen apart from drug and alcohol abuse. He is lured back to recording music through a bizarre scam and the though the material is unique, the music was far from his best work.

The Bullet Points:
Album Appeared:
Psychoderelict (1993)

Performer:
Pete Townshend

Songs you might remember:
English Boy

Why you should vote for him:
This is a Rock and Roll legend after all.

Why you should not vote for him:
This was poorly received and barely remembered.

The Rats

Rats The
From Velvet Goldmine, we have the Rats; who were basically the Stooges. With all due respect to the backing band, the star here was Curt Wild (Ewan McGregor) who was modeled after Iggy Pop. Wild was the lover of the main star of the film (who was modeled after David Bowie) and his on stage antics was certainly worth remembering. Had this gained a bigger audience, we think this would really be a dark horse candidate. Hey, this is Obi-Wan Kenobi after all.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Velvet Goldmine (1998)

Actors:
Ewan McGregor (Curt Wild, Lead Singer)
Alan Fordham (Bass Guitar)
Jono McGrath (Lead Guitar)
Perry Clayton (Drums)

Songs you might remember:
T.V. Eye
Gimme Danger

Why you should vote for them:
McGregor was great here, and did not come off as a parody of Iggy Pop.

Why you should not vote for them:
Obi Wan was seen a lot more as...Obi Wan.
