Let’s go on record here and say that we think Richard Hell is one of the most underappreciated musicians in terms of his overall importance. This fact does not mean, however, that his role transcended into his acting.

It wasn't that he was terrible. Hell played somewhat fictionalized versions of himself, but that body of work wasn't seen by many. Such is the case for Smithereens, which happened to be the name of the punk band he once starred in, though at this time, what we see of Eric (Hell's character) is that of a burned-out failure.
