From the computer animated film, Coco, Ernesto de la Cruz was a national singing treasure in Mexico. He sold out arenas and was beloved by the country and he was taken away from the citizens of Mexico after he a freak accident at a concert in 1942. Of course we later learn that he was s song thief, which was far from the worst of his sins but he is desperate to keep up his legacy, which he is doing in the Land of the Dead.

It is notable that “Remember Me” from the film would win the 2018 Oscar for Best Original Song.
