I saw him play for over 10 years. Except for Musial, who was not as good a fielder, he was THE BEST first baseman of his time. Defensively he was perfection. In addition, as MGR. he pulled of miracle with ho-hum Mets. A gentle man of strength, humility, integrity, great sportsmanshi p outstanding character. He set an incredible example for all kids. Unfortunatel y he played with Reese, Robinson and Campy and many writers thought that there were enough Dodgers in the Hall. Great miscarriage of justice!

Hodges and Joe Adcock were basically the same player. Hodges overall numbers were slightly better but helped by playing in Ebbets Field. Had Adcock not missed so much time to injury, he'd be the one who was truly HOF worthy

As a Yankee fan in the '50's, I absolutely HATED the Dodgers. However, at the time I was a first baseman and learned so much from watching Gil Hodges play first base; he played it better than anyone I ever saw in all my years of watching baseball. He was a man who was a reliable, consistent player for the Dodgers, he hit homers and knocked in runs for years and years. His omission from Cooperstown is tragic. He most definitely deserves to be there...
