The Pro Football Hall of Fame is a passion of ours, and as we are entering the 2025 NFL Season, we are pleased to announce the update of our Top 100 Active Players based on their current Hall of Fame candidacy.

Note that we base this list on what they have done, not what their potential is, so, for example, Micah Parsons, who most people think is the best Inside Linebacker in the game, is not ranked as high as players who might be less talented, but have achieved more through longevity.

They are ranked by position, which you can click on below:

Quarterbacks

Running Backs

Wide Receivers

Tight Ends

Offensive Linemen

Defensive Lineman-Linebackers-Pass Rushers-EDGE

Defensive Linemen-Linebackers-Interior Linemen

Cornerbacks

Safeties

Special Teams

As always, we thank you for your support!

1983 PRELIMINARY RESULTS:

Thank you to all who participated in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Revisited Project. If you are still determining what that is, we acted like the PFHOF had its first class in January 1946.

We have completed the first 38 years thus far.

For “1983,” a Preliminary Vote with close to 100 players whose playing career ended by 1977. We are also following the structure, where players have 20 years of eligibility, and if they do not make it into the Hall, they are relegated to the Senior Pool.

Each voter was asked to select 25 names from the preliminary list, and the top 25 vote-getters were named Semi-Finalists.

A week later, the voters will be asked to select 15 names from the 25 Semi-Finalists and then choose five from the remaining 15. We will continue this process every week until we catch up to the current year.

Please note that a significant change occurred “years ago,” allowing voters to submit fewer than the allotted spots.

30 Votes took place.

Next week, we will announce the Semi-Finalists for the 1982 Pro Football Hall of Fame Revisited Project.

It is with great pleasure that we have brought back the Notinhalloffame MLB Regular Cup, and let us explain how this works:

For every regular-season game, we anointed the top five players with the most points, in descending order: 5-4-3-2-1.

We know the following:

  • The top players for the MLB NIHOF Cup are not always the best in the league, as injuries keep players out of games, and a premium on staying healthy can help pile up points. It also does not hurt to be a top player on an average or mediocre team, as they can amass Cup points more easily than elite players on loaded squads.
  • In Baseball, it is more common than in Basketball and Hockey for a player to accrue points with a single Home Run in a game, which favors position players. Starting Pitchers have a hard time with approximately 30-35 Starts and throwing fewer innings than previous generations. This is also true for closers not made for this process.
  • Please remember that this is NOT necessarily who we think were the best players this year and does not reflect overall consistency. Treat this the way we did: as a fun process and more of a compilation of temporary statistical domination.

Here is the current top ten after games concluded on August 28.

1. Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Dodgers:  174 Cup Points in 131 Games.  (#1 Last Week).  5.6 bWAR, 123 Runs, 141 Hits, 45 Home Runs, 85 Runs Batted In, .278/.387/.608 Slash Line, .995 OPS & 173 OPS+.

2. Aaron Judge, New York Yankees: 165 Cup Points in 124 Games. (#2 Last Week).  7.1 bWAR, 106 Runs, 145 Hits, 41 Home Runs, 95 Runs Batted In, .323/.440/.666 Slash Line, 1.106 OPS & 202 OPS+.

3. Pete Alonso, New York Mets: 157 Cup Points in 134 Games. (#4 Last Week).   3.1 bWAR, 72 Runs, 136 Hits, 30 Home Runs, 108 Runs Batted In, .267/.348/.514 Slash Line, .861 OPS & 144 OPS+.

4. Cal Raleigh, Seattle Mariners: 151 Cup Points in 125 Games. (#3 Last Week).   5.6 bWAR, 87 Runs, 120 Hits, 50 Home Runs, 107 Runs Batted In, .244/.351/.587 Slash Line, .939 OPS & 165 OPS+.

5. Kyle Schwarber, Philadelphia Phillies: 145 Cup Points in 134 Games.  (#5 Last Week).  4.4 bWAR, 94 Runs, 124 Hits, 49 Home Runs, 119 Runs Batted In, .248/.370/.586 Slash Line, .956 OPS & 156 OPS+.

6 (TIE). Francisco Lindor, New York Mets: 137 Cup Points in 132 Games. (#7 Last Week).   4.2 bWAR, 91 Runs, 145 Hits, 25 Home Runs, 73 Runs Batted In, .269/.336/.457 Slash Line, .794 OPS & 126 OPS+.

6 (TIE). Manny Machado, San Diego Padres: 137 Cup Points in 134 Games. (#6 Last Week).   3.6 bWAR, 77 Runs, 149 Hits, 21 Home Runs, 78 Runs Batted In, .288/.348/.471 Slash Line, .819 OPS & 124 OPS+.

8. Jose Ramirez, Cleveland Guardians:  136 Cup Points in 128 Games.  (#8 Last Week).  4.7 bWAR, 81 Runs, 137 Hits, 26 Home Runs, 68 Runs Batted In, .284/.358/.504 Slash Line, .862 OPS & 136 OPS+.

9. Bobby Witt Jr., Kansas City Royals: 134 Cup Points in 132 Games. (#9 Last Week).  6.0 bWAR, 86 Runs, 155 Hits, 19 Home Runs, 74 Runs Batted In, .298/.354/.501 Slash Line, .855 OPS & 136 OPS+.

10. Riley Greene, Detroit Tigers:  133 Cup Points in 131 Games.  (#10 Last Week).  2.5 bWAR, 72 Runs, 133 Hits, 32 Home Runs, 99 Runs Batted In, .266/.321/.514 Slash Line, .835 OPS & 126 OPS+.

The Los Angeles Dodgers’  Freddie Freeman fell out of the Top Ten.

Notably, 1,085 baseball players have earned at least 1 point, up from 1,067 last week.

Handball has been one of the most spectacular sports at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu and captivated the fans with fast rhythm and dynamic movement as well as the close matches on the sand. Men and women competitions in beach handball have also been exemplary of exciting matches with top teams fighting each other to earn every point and medal. The tournament did not only underline the current champions but also provided newcomers an opportunity to challenge the status quo so that in every match a step to the podium could be made.

The 34 sports in which more than 4,000 athletes took part were a preview of a possible taste of what is likely to happen at Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, as handball dominated, with the event getting the most buzz. Medals were awarded starting 8 August and the medal rounds of handball were among the most looked-forward to matches that allowed fans around the world to follow live coverage.

European Champions Spain and Debutants Portugal Made Their Mark in Women’s Beach Handball

Although the home crowd added their passionate support to Vietnam, it was unable to beat Germany, a team with back to back successes in The World Games and World Championship titles, and won 2-0 (26:16, 24:12). Although promising in the start of the second set when the game stood at 6:6, a direct red card handed to Quynh Do Thi Nhu was a difference maker. Germany took no time to capitalize, scoring 14:2 in the next several minutes and stamping the victory.

Observers following handball betting could understand how rapidly the flow of the game can be changed during such high-quality games since the German team demonstrated persistence and power and four of them even reached into a double-digit score, Isobel Kattner being the one that even imbued the Vietnamese defense. In the performance, Gettwart attributed her performance not only to her teammates but also to the additional cheer-up provided by the German fistball team as she says the atmosphere pushed her further.

In other matches, Spain recovered their lost victory over Germany in the initial match against Denmark in a 2-0 (13:12, 19:18) win. The first one resolved itself in favour of the golden goal by Jimena Laguna Contreras because of misguided attempts on the part of the Danish side. Spain dominated in the second set more firmly but was still leading at the end of the match which gave them their first victory in the tourney. Maria Batista led with 12 points and Spain remained in striking distance. At the same time, the debutants Portugal also started their journey on the world stage with points in their balance to make a historic first step of the women beach handball team.

What was the recording of the women beach handball match (day 2)?

  • In Germany vs Vietnam, two goals were scored in a rather one-sided match (26:16, 24:12) in which Germany triumphed after a red card of Vietnam.
  • Spain-Denmark: 2 -0 (13:12, 19:18) - Contreras scored a golden goal in the first set.
  • Portugal (Debut): Their tournament debut was an opening affair and marked their first points at The World Games.

Key Takeaways

  • Germany continued to win and pulled out superiorly.
  • Spain took revenge against their defeat in the first match and narrowly overcame Denmark by beating 2-0.
  • Portugal started their debut performance quite well cracking into the competition.

Growth and Expansion in Handball at The World Games 2025

In the evolution strategy paper Growth Beyond Excellence, the poster highlighted some of the guidelines that the sports programme and participation at The World Games 2025 would follow that highlighted the increase in the opportunities of handball and other sports. The overall participant target was expanded to 5,000 (including sports personnel and technical officials) which gave more participation to handball teams and players. Among them 4,000 participants were assigned to sports suggested by the IWGA Member Federations, and the rest were distributed the following way:

  • The Participants will be a total of 400 participants representing disciplines to be determined in consultation with the Host City.
  • 400 participants of the disciplines identified in cooperation with the IOC.
  • Viability of 200 participants in para disciplines that were not part of the Paralympic Games as established with the IPC.

Chengdu was set in a full state to welcome this expansion with superior quality facilities and infrastructure that had the capacity of supporting the new number of athletes. The city was used to playing host to major multi-sporting events, such as the 2019 World Police and Fire Games and the 2023 FISU World University Games, and so the handball competitions could be conducted without resort to new buildings.
