In terms of overall talent, few could match Rick Barry.  Actually, the same could also be said about overall bad temperament as there were few who were as surly as the Basketball Hall of Famer.

Barry jumped to the Oakland Oaks of the ABA after two seasons with the NBA’s Golden State Warriors and he was forced to sit out the 1967/68 season as he was legally barred from competing there.  Once he got to play in the ABA the team relocated to Washington D.C. and was about to relocate again to Virginia, which Barry refused forcing a trade, which is how he became a New York Net.

With New York for two seasons, Barry was a First Team All-ABA Selection, ABA All-Star and averaged 30.6 Points per Game, which is the highest in franchise history.  He also averaged 44 Minutes per Game as a Net, basically meaning you hardly ever saw him spend any time on the bench!

When Barry’s contract expired his rights were legally bound back to the Golden State Warriors where he would resign in 1972.

Barry entered the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987, and was later named to the the 75th Annversary Team.
