When he returned in 1946 he lived up to the potential that the Cardinals thought he had as the southpaw became the ace of the staff leading the National League in Wins (21), Earned Run Average (2.10), Innings Pitched (266) while finishing fourth in MVP voting and taking the Cardinals back to the World Series where they win the title. Pollet would slip over the next two seasons but rebounded for one more really good campaign in 1949 where he went to his third and final All Star Game with a 20 and 9 season finishing third in ERA and first in bWAR for Pitchers. His game slipped afterwards and he would be traded to Pittsburgh midway through the 1951 season.
Pollet would go 97 and 65 as a St. Louis Cardinal.

Howie Pollet was on the verge of becoming a star prior to going to serve his country in World War II. He was named an All Star in 1943 and actually enlisted for service that day though he played enough games for his 1.75 ERA to win that title.
