Seemingly always in someone else’s shadow, Lolich was the true star of the 1968 World Series, winning three games, the MVP Award and was the main reason that Detroit won the World Series, but this was also the year of Denny McClain’s 31 game season, which is actually what most people remember.
Lolich, however, did finish in the top five in Cy Young voting twice and is still the organization’s leader in Strikeouts with 2,679 and a record of 207-175.
