A superstar in Cuba, Jose Abreu defected in 2013, and it was the White Sox who won the sweepstakes to sign him.

Playing at First Base, Abreu did exactly what was expected of him by winning the Rookie of the Year Award, while earning a trip to All-Star Game.  His power numbers were substantial with 36 Home Runs, 107 RBIs, a .317 Batting Average, and a league-leading .581 Slugging Percentage.  Over the next three seasons, Abreu never had less than 25 Home Runs or 100 RBIs and would bat at least .290.  2018 was a down year for the Cuban, but he rebounded in 2019 with 33 Home Runs, and a league-leading 123 RBI.  2020 was much better for Abreu, who was named the MVP in the COVID-shortened year on the strength of his 19 Home Runs, and second straight RBI Title (60).  Abreu also led the AL in Hits (76), Slugging Percentage (.617) and batted .317.  He followed that up with a 30 HR year in 2021, and he batted over .300 in 2022.

Abreu surprised many by leaving the ChiSox for Houston as a Free Agent in 2023.  With the White Sox, Abreu had 1,445 Hits, 245 Home Runs and batted .292.
