Generally, we don’t include girlfriends as potential Contributors, but since “For Love of the Game” is half RomCom and half sports films, we thought this was worth a nomination. Although we personally far preferred the intricacies of Billy Chapel (Kevin Costner) on the mound, the relationship between Chapel and Jane Aubrey (Kelly Preston) was half of the movie, and since she was billed second in what was a respected sports film, she deserves a nomination. Also, we want to throw her a bone for being the beard for Travolta for so many years. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: For Love of the Game (1999) Actor: Kelly Preston Role Portrayed: Girlfriend Why You Should Vote For Her: We’ll say this; she was one of the better girlfriends, or at least one of the most multi-dimensional in terms of character. Why You Should Not Vote For Her: It’s a girlfriend role. That is probably not what a lot of people think that this Hall of Fame should be about. {youtube}

Based (and can’t you also tell by the alliteration?) on Harry Hyde, the Crew Chief for NASCAR legend, Bobby Issac, Harry Hogge was the patient, vertebral mentor for the reckless and youthful Cole Trickle in Days of Thunder. Although Duvall was fine in what was a weak film, we still have to admire the way he was calm the way he taught Trickle what a carbonator was. Bet that Harry Hyde never had to that for Issac! The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Days of Thunder (1990) Actor: Robert Duvall Role Portrayed: NASCAR Crew Chief Why You Should Vote For Him: Duvall is an acting legend, and had patience with Cruise (Trickle) on film, and probably off of it! Why You Should Not Vote For Him: Days of Thunder may have made a lot of money, but it was not exactly a stellar flick. {youtube}

In Rocky V, we are introduced to the first boxing promoter in the series in George Washington Duke, who with out the loud hair was basically a rip off of Don King. Duke manipulated the young and naïve protégé of Rocky Balboa, Tommy Gunn, and as such became the real de facto villain in the film, and fans (although they may have agreed it was by far the weakest film of the series) cheered louder when Duke got knocked out as opposed to Gunn. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Rocky V (1990) Actor: Richard Gant Role Portrayed: Boxing Promoter Why You Should Vote For Him: He was the true villain in Rocky V. Why You Should Not Vote For Him: The real antagonist should be in the ring in a Rocky film. {youtube}

You have to hand it to Gerard Butler, as even in a Romantic Comedy he can make at least palatable to the men who are forced to watch them. In “Playing for Keeps” Butler portrays George Dryer, a former Scottish League Soccer player, still living in his past glory with the hopes of becoming s sportscaster for ESPN. Although this is really about relationships, there are enough sports references to keep us interested, though we don’t think that even the alpha male from 300 is enough to generate an induction. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Playing for Keeps (2012) Actor: Gerard Butler Role Portrayed: Former Scottish League Soccer Player/Youth Soccer Coach/Sportscaster Why You Should Vote For Him: It may be a chick-flick, but Butler transcends that and is likable to all. Why You Should Not Vote For Him: This really isn’t a sports film. {youtube}
