The Artists

Fats Mallard and the Bluegrass Fireball

From the underappreciated concept album (The Turtles present the Battle of the Bands) by the Turtles we have an album where different “bands” appeared. This allowed the group to not only stretch their skills musically, as each “band” had a completely different sound and also showcase their humor. The Turtles exploration of the Bluegrass genre may have confused the young kids who purchased this album hoping for variations of Happy Together. Of course, if that were what they were hoping for, they would have long been confused by the second track. We will say that their very brief foray into…

Figrin D'An and the Modal Nodes

We assume that this was the regular band at the Mos Eisley Cantina, and we are also going to assume that they knew more than the two songs that we heard. We also have to question the ethics of a band that seemed to have little concern when a green creature is killed in the establishment they are playing in. We can say this; most people reading this may not know their name, but they can hum their song…even if they don’t know what it is called. The Bullet Points: Movies Appeared: Star Wars (1977) Actors: A bunch of guys…

Fingerbang

We will admit that this one of our favorite band names ever; especially considering that the kids singing had no concept of the real meaning of the word “Fingerbang”. The kids of course are the gang from South Park, though our favorite member was the late addition of Stan’s dad, Randy who substituted for Kenny (who was killed naturally) and overcame his own demons as he was in a Boy Band himself (The Ghetto Avenue Boys) that hit rock bottom after it made it big. Their gig at the mall remains an all time highlight of the animated show for…

Flame

It is not always a great idea when a band comprises all of the main actors in a film (KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park for example) but in “Slade in Flame” you have a band playing a somewhat fictionalized version of themselves, and doing a decent job at it. As the name suggests, Slade portrays a fake band named “Flame” and they rocket to the top. Now, we know what happens in musical films when that happens, as they are destined to break up, but as most films if it is done well and there are interesting subplots…

Flypaper

From the Anne Hathaway film, The Princess Diaries, we had a brief glimpse of the band, Flypaper. In the flick, Hathaway’s best friend’s brother had a band, which had an irrelevant role. Although this was a very successful movie, did anyone who watched this film want more of Flypaper? The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: The Princess Diaries (2001) Actors: Robert Schwartzman (Michael Moscovitz) Ned Brower Taylor Locke Shan Elliot Harold Carter Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for them: Hmmm…We really don’t have much of a good reason here. Why you should not vote for them: Their…

Foxxy Love

Don’t you love a spoof within a spoof? From the animated Reality TV parody, Drawn Together, we have a parody of Valerie Brown from Josie and the Pussycats in the form of “Foxxy Love”. In our opinion, this was the best character from the show, but admittedly if we only had her hold her tambourine without actually playing any kind of song, do we really have a strong contender here?

Franklin

We love Arrested Development, but we almost forgot about when George Bluth II (Will Arnett) showed us his ventriloquist act and attempted to record an album featuring the songs of Franklin; his African American puppet. In his lone episode we learn that $5,000 was spent to make “Franklin Comes Alive”, though his brand of racial harmony never saw the light of day. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Arrested Development (2005) Actor: Will Arnett Songs you might remember: Everything I Do, I Do it For You Why you should vote for them: Will Arnett and a puppet? Sign us up!…

Freddy Fredrickson

One of the stars of the “Playtone” label was Freddy Fredrickson, whose signature hit “Mr. Downtown” was a catchy tune that was half charm and half swarm. Somehow, we think if we were alive in that time period and this was a real song; this would be a guilty pleasure; and perhaps one we would want to make a bad private eye show around. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: That Thing You Do (1996) Actor: Robert Torti Songs you might remember: Mr. Downtown Why you should vote for him: In the Playtone universe, he had a hit. Why you should…

Frozen Embryos

Before Jared Leto entered into a fruitless Rock career, he “led” a band in the brief but much acclaimed TV show, “My So Called Life”. We can’t say that we remember a lot about the program, but we don’t recall much about Leto’s actual band (30 Seconds to Mars) either. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: My So Called Life (1994) Actor: Jared Leto (Jordan Catalano) And we have no idea who else in this group. Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for them: We are going to go with the critical acclaim reason for this one.…

Fuck Your Yankee Blue Jeans

We never saw the entire Russian band, Fuck Your Yankee Blue Jeans, with the exception of their lead singer; who happened to be the cousin of Jay of the View Askew Universe. He gave us a brief version of his song, Berseker, with the following lyrics: “MY LOVE FOR YOU IS LIKE A TRUCK BERSERKER! WOULD YOU LIKE SOME MAKING FUCK? BERSERKER! This might be why we like Russian Metal…Thanks, Cousin Olaf.     The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Clerks (1994) Actor: Olaf Oleeson (John Henry Westhead) Songs you might remember: Berserker Why you should vote for them: The Jay and Silent…

Fulla T

He was only on screen for a few minutes but on this Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, we have a nominee in Fulla T, who was gunned down in a lobby of a Hip Hop radio station. So why are we nominating him? Because this is played by Rap Legend, Fab Five Freddy, that’s why! The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2007) Actor: Fab Five Freddy Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for him: Well…you might love Grandmaster Flash and Law and Order SVU…like the owners of this website. Garfunkel, Messina, Oates and Lisa

In a 1994 episode of the Simpsons, young Lisa Simpson develops a crisis of confidence when a new kid in school seems to be able to one up her in everything. In a brief dream sequence she imagines herself in concert with other famous second bananas, Art Garfunkel, Jim Messina and John Oates and asking why they came just to boo. Yeah, we know it was brief, but it made us laugh so here it is on the ballot. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: The Simpsons (1994) Actors: Yeardley Smith Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote…

Garnet McGee

We almost completely forgot that Captain Janeway was on Dallas as a dolled up Patsy Cline type who was engaged to Ray Krebs. Well, she was engaged to him until she slept with J.R. Ewing, who always had a way with the ladies. Must be the cowboy hat.

Gemini's Twin

Appearing multiple times over a two year stretch on Saturday Night Live Gemini’s Twin was a humorous play off then popular act, Destiny’s Child. Played by two of the funniest females in SNL history (Ana Gasteyer and Maya Rudolph), most of their sketches showcased their “third member” who seemed to differ depending on who the guest host was.   Considering the lineup and that it lasted two years, this isn’t a bad SNL candidate, though we admit there are stronger choices from the show.    The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Gemini’s Twin (2000-02) Actors: Ana Gasteyer (Joanette) Maya Rudolph (Brittanica)…

George Webber

Dudley Moore finally struck gold in his early 40’s as the lead in Blake Edwards’ “10”. He played composer, George Webber, who at the onset of his 42nd birthday acquired the midlife crisis, which sets the film in motion. The movie gave us the iconic scene with Bo Derek in cornrows, made Dudley Moore an instant sex symbol (and hero for short average looking men), but it did not give us any insight into Webber’s music which though was irrelevant to the film, is relevant here.   The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: 10 (1979) Actor: Dudley Moore Songs you might…

Georgia Flood

In an Oscar nominated performance, Mare Winningham was the titular character (though not the lead) of Georgia Flood, a successful folk singer. Her music was good, though she was not the tragic figure that so many celluloid musicians are shown as; that was her sister (Jennifer Jason Leigh). She was the adjusted happy one, and the dynamic with her troubled sister was far more interesting then the music she had in the film. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Georgia (1995) Actor: Mare Winningham Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for her: This in Oscar nominated performance; there…

Gerry and Cookie Fleck

From another in the category of “we guess this qualifies” we have Gerry and Cookie Fleck (Eugene Levy and Catharine O’Hara) who were two of the eccentric characters of “Best in Show”; a quirky comedy about dog breeders who gather to compete in a dog show. Near the end of the mockumentary, we learn that the Flecks recorded terrier themed songs, though we can’t imagine they sold very well.   The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Best in Show (2000) Actors: Eugene Levy (Gerry Fleck) Catharine O’Hara (Cookie Fleck) Songs you might remember: God Loves a Terrier Why you should vote for…

Getting Gay with Kids

With a group name that seemingly could only be found on South Park, we have a choir group called “Getting Gay With Kids”. Musically, they were horrible, but in the episode where they appeared we got a cameo voice of Jennifer Anniston, a song about the rain forest, which had both positive and negative versions, and Mr. Mackey at his best. We can’t say a kids choir really belongs in this Hall of Fame, but damn, we laughed a lot watching it. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: South Park (1999) Actor: Trey Parker Matt Stone Songs you might remember:…

Global Heresy

From the film of the same name, we have the film that might have marked the end of Alicia Silverstone’s hotness. Playing (badly) a replacement for a bass player who has gone missing in a top band, Silverstone’s character helps the band to refocus as they are tucked away in a British mansion that they rented; which is staffed by the uptight owners who are trying to avoid the perception of their impending bankruptcy. Oh, the hilarity!   The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Global Heresy (2002) Actors: Alicia Silverstone (Nat) …and we don’t care who else. Songs you might remember: Throw…

God's Cock

From the Mike Judge film, Extract, we learn of a Metal band named “God’s Cock”, of which one of the factory workers, is a member of.  At the end of the film, we see them play in a backyard and are instantly reminded that the guy who gave us Beavis and Butthead did this film.

Grandmaster B

As David Faustino was legitimately trying to be a rapper (seriously) the producers of Married With Children incorporated it as an alter ego of Bud Bundy, named Grandmaster B. The persona was supposed to help him with the ladies, and he gave himself a fake backstory where he was from the mean streets of New York. It rarely worked, but we enjoyed far more enjoyed the incorrect names that he was referred to, than any rap he attempted.

Greg and Paul

With a pre “B.J. and the Bear” Greg Evigan and a pre “David Letterman Show” Paul Shaffer, we have a television show that nobody asked for.   Greg and Paul made a pact with the devil to have “A Year at the Top” as popular musicians. As you can imagine, the show was a mess, and the writers clearly did not sell their soul to the devil to get a hit show as it lasted only five episodes. Of course, both managed to have successful careers anyway. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: A Year at the Top (1977) Actors: Greg…

Grimethorpe Colliery Brass Band

Brassed Off was not expected to be a hit, but it proved to be very successful and profitable in England. The film struck a chord (no pun intended) with the British working class, as the plot took place in a depressed town whose mine was facing a shut down. Musically, the key members of the film played in a Brass Band, which was prominently featured. Now does a British Brass Band belong into a Rock Hall? The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Brassed Off (1996) Actors: Pete Postlethwaite (Danny) Ewan McGregor (Andy) Tara Fitzgerald (Gloria) Stephen Tompkinson (Phil) Songs you might…

Grivo

A huge Rock Star whose dark lyrics and general indifference to everything was his trademark, Grivo traded it all in when he took the happiness drug and would actually win an MTV Award with “Happiness Pie”.   Now how often do you get to vote for a Glenn Danzig knock off? The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Brain Candy (1996) Actor: Bruce McCullough Songs you might remember: Happiness Pie Why you should vote for him: It was established that both versions of Grivo was successful. Why you should not vote for him: Does “Happiness Pie” belong in any Rock and Roll Hall…
