We can’t remember anything he said in this movie, nor do we think that the actor who played him did anything else, but we do remember this…..Sonny Pintubi won the Marathon in the Olympics. If this movie gets an induction, how can it not be for this Aboriginal superstar? As unlikely as Gene Wilder is in any athletic role, we will say that we loved (as we are sure many did) him as the prison inmate turned rodeo star. Did he look the part? Hell no; but this is one of those cases where it didn’t matter one bit. Sure the movie was in a bit (ok, a lot) of bad taste, and Steve Parker did not actually win as “The Ringer” in the Special Olympics, but he was with a pre-obnoxious Katherine Heigl in the film so maybe we will cut him a break.
