Frank Capua

We may not have been all that interested in the sub-plot love triangle with Joanne Woodward and Robert Wagner, but Paul Newman, an avid race fan himself was brilliant as Frank Capua, an automobile racer who is competing at the Indianapolis 500. There are very few American actors who could tell such a compelling story with just his eyes, and with riveting race scenes, cameos by legitimate drivers, we have what we think could be a solid candidate for the Veterans Category for the Fictitious Athlete Hall of Fame. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Winning (1969) Actor: Paul Newman Role…

Irv Blitzer

An American did coach the Jamaican Bobsled Team in 1988, but he didn’t win the Gold in 68 nor was he disqualified in 72. The real coach was also not disgraced and became as obese as….let’s say…John Candy. Regardless, Candy is a comedic legend and was hired to present a contrast to the Jamaicans bobsledders in a family friendly way. It was not Candy’s funniest role, but he delivered what was needed. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Cool Runnings (1993) Actor: John Candy Role Portrayed: Coach of the Jamaican Bobsled Team Why you should vote for him: It is a…

John Kreese

“Surrender is not in our creed”. This was the rallying cry for John Kreese, the Vietnam Vet turned sensei that ran the Cobra Kai dojo. That all sounded cool, but membership apparently was exclusive to Southern California rich kids, and his best student lost to a 30 year old teenager who was taught karate in a few weeks by painting a house. Now put that into perspective, shall we? The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: The Karate Kid (1984) The Karate Kid II (1986) The Karate Kid III (1989) Actor: Martin Kove Role Portrayed: Sensei of the Cobra Kai Dojo Why…

Lee

Although Enter the Dragon in terms of plot made no real sense whatsoever, it didn’t matter as this was the movie that finally got American audiences to see Bruce Lee and they were content to watch him kick ass. We aren’t even sure that he belongs here, but Bruce Lee (playing a guy named Lee not so coincidentally) goes onto to the bad guy’s island to compete in a Marital Arts tournament. That makes him barely qualify here, but what kind of tournament was this? We saw nothing that told us rules, brackets, and in theory we never even saw…

Ricky Bobby

Will Farrell returns at his comedic best as NASCAR racer Ricky Bobby. We lost count on the amount of laugh out loud moments regardless of the absurdity of the situation, and it still gave us what we wanted as sports fans; plenty of racing action. Ricky Bobby and Jackie Moon were only two years apart; and it would not surprise us to see both enter the Hall quickly. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Talladega Nights: The Legend of Ricky Bobby (2006) Actor: Will Farrell Position Portrayed: Nascar Driver Played for: Dennit Racing Team Why you should vote for him: Farrell…
