Sometimes, you never know what will become a hit. In the late 1980’s the California Raisin Advisory Board created a hit commercial of anthropomorphic raisins that sang old Rhythm & Blues. Actually, it was a phenomenon, which spawned a TV show, merchandise and even a video game. Who knew that a cover “Heard it Through the Grapevine” could do so well? The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Meet the Raisins! (1989) Actors: Singing Voice: Buddy Miles Songs you might remember: Heard it Through the Grapevine Why you should vote for them: This was a very successful advertising campaign Why you should not vote for them: How about because they are raisins! {youtube}

We are a little shaky with the details on this one. We admittedly watched Saved by the Bell, but we never watched an entire episode of its musically inspired doppelganger, California Dreams. We do know that is lasted five years showing that somebody watched but as far as we can tell it did not generate any significant music that anyone seems to remember. We bet the Zack Attack gets more votes than this! The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: California Dreams (1992-96) Actors: Brent Gore (Matt Garrison, Guitar) Kelly Packard (Tiffani Smith, Bass) William James Jones (Tony Wicks, Drummer) Heidi Noelle Lenhart (Jenny Garrison, Keyboards) Jay Anthony Franke (Jake Sommers, Guitar) Jennie Kwan (Samantha Woo, Singer) Aaron Jackson (Keyboards) Songs you might remember: We don’t remember any. Why you should vote for them: If this lasted five years, somebody must have watched this! Why you should not vote for them: We are not sure we have ever met anyone who has. {youtube}

Whether or not the world forgets about Chris Brown and his attack on Rihanna (and they won’t), the Law & Order universe cashed in with “Caleb Bryant” whose alliteration to the R&B superstar was not an accident. The difference in this NBC show is that Rihanna knockoff was beaten to death, but SVU was never known to do anything half assed. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2013) Actor: Eugene Jones III Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for him: Only if you think Chris Brown was right. Why you should not vote for him: It was only one episode that was “ripped from the headlines”.

For our money, one of the most underrated hotties of the 1980’s was Sheena Easton. She looked innocent, but could appear slutty, had a sexy Scottish accent and had an amazing singing voice. On Miami Vice, Easton married Sonny Crockett (Don Johnson) and rather than go into the nonsensical plot, we will state that we loved her role as Caitlin Davies, the successful Pop Singer with a tragic ending. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Miami Vice (1987-88) Actor: Sheena Easton Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for her: We maintain that we made our case for Davies. Why you should not vote for her: We admit, it is a horrible case. {youtube}
