Mac Sledge

Mac Sledge
Robert Duvall is one of the greatest actors of all time, and he won his lone Best Actor Oscar for his role as alcoholic Country Singer, Mac Sledge in Tender Mercies. Duvall looked the part perfectly as the tormented singer looking for redemption, and unlike other singing portrayals, Duvall sang his own songs. The best case we think for induction is that the members of the Outlaw Country Movement, of which Duvall seemed to channel, believed that he hit it out of the park, and that kind of praise should not (and cannot) be ignored.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Tender Mercies (1983)

Actor:
Robert Duvall

Songs you might remember:
If You’ll Hold the Ladder (I’ll Climb to the Top)

Why you should vote for him:
This is one of the best acting performances on the ballot.

Why you should not vote for him:
By calling it the Fictitious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, did we omit this Country superstar?

Lurleen Lumpkin

Lurleen Lumpkin
When Homer Simpson discovers a female country singer (in the part of the world that does not serve Duff, but Fudd instead) we were introduced to Lurleen Lumpkin. She would take the fictional Country music world by storm under the early guidance of “Colonel” Homer, and for an episode that lasted only twenty-two minutes many Simpsons fans remember the songs from the episode.

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
The Simpsons (1992)

Actor:
Beverly D’Angelo

Songs you might remember:
Bunk with me Tonight
Your Wife Don’t Understand You
Finally Bagged me a Homer
Stand by Your Manager

Why you should vote for her:
Is it wrong to say that if she made it to the Betty Ford Rehab Clinic that she became a star? We learned that in a later episode.

Why you should not vote for her:
Again, we will play the Country Music card. Does a “Country” act belong in a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

Luke Falcon

Luke Falcon
Undiscovered may have been one of the worst films of all time, and for those who may disagree, it is still the film with the highest drop off from week one to week two in the box office. One of the top roles was played by Steven Strait who played aspiring singer, Luke Falcon who may or may not have made it. Frankly, we couldn’t make it to the end to find out.

Lucy and the Diamonds

Lucy and the Diamonds
What a mess this was. From the stinkpot that was the 1978 film, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band we have “Lucy and the Diamonds”, which may have done the worst cover a Beatles song since William Shatner. That’s it we have had enough; we need another beer.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1978)

Actors:
Diane Steinberg and Steingard

Songs you might remember:
Lucy and the Sky with Diamonds

Why you should vote for them:
Honestly, you shouldn’t.

Why you should not vote for them:
This was so bad, we liked Shatner’s version better!
