I Can't Go On, I'll Go On

I Cant Go On Ill Go On
Bandslam may not have appealed to the adult set, but it was never supposed to. It was a cute film geared towards the young adult set where a band brings misfits (with the name, I Can’t Go On, I’ll Go On) together. Depending on your point of view, this may not be what Rock and Roll is all about it, but at least this picture knew what it was trying to be, and the music is not that bad.

From the underappreciated concept album (The Turtles present the Battle of the Bands) by the Turtles we have an albums where different “bands” appeared. This allowed the group to not only stretch their skills musically, as each “band” had a completely different sound and also showcase their humor.

“Elenore” was the biggest hit from the album, which was actually parodying their biggest pop hit, “Happy Together”. The song had an artfully crafted pop sound, though lyrically it lampooned the entire genre. We wonder how many of their younger fans got the joke at the time.

The Bullet Points:
Album Appeared:
The Turtles present the Battle of the Bands (1968)

Actors/Performers:
The Turtles

Songs you might remember:
Elenore

Why you should vote for them:
The “bands” lone song was a top ten hit.

Why you should not vote for them:
We aren’t sure ourselves if the Turtles billing themselves under another name for one song only should even count.

Hot Sundae
As far as we know, the all girl group of the three girls of Saved by the Bell lasted only one episode, but the memories of Jessie Spano succumbing to the pressures of being a future “Showgirl” live on with us forever. Fans of the show (and we sheepishly admit we are ones) will never forget Elizabeth Berkley singing, “I’m So Excited” during her breakdown. Now kids, what did we learn from that?

Why you should not vote for them:
They were actually really bad.

The Hot Rollers

From Cheech & Chong’s 1981 film, “Nice Dreams” we have a scene where Chong is mistaken for Jerry Garcia and is presented with a band to try to promote. That group is the all-female outfit called the “Hot Rollers” who all have names based on hair colors. That’s about all we remember from this one.
