Paul Blake

Paul Blake
Necessary Roughness is not exactly a great football film. It isn’t terrible either, and much of that is because of Scott Bakula whose earnest demeanor just made everything believable….even in a film with as many gridiron related plot holes as this.

Because of Bakula’s likability, we bought him as the middle aged freshman quarterback, Paul Blake (who still looked younger than Chris Weinke did at Florida State). We wanted to buy that with him at QB, that Texas State could beat #1 ranked Texas (Named the Colts as opposed to the Longhorns) at the end of the film despite having only 17 players (most of which who played both sides of the football). We even wanted to believe it despite one of his teammates being Sinbad. As we stated earlier, it wasn’t a great film, but we wonder how it would have played out without Bakula at QB.
