The Artists

Sausalito

From Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation, we have a hotel lounge act that caterwauled “Scarborough Fair” badly. They weren’t featured much in the film, but we remember them mostly for Bill Murray bedding the lead singer in a one night stand. We wish we didn’t have to hear her sing “Midnight at the Oasis” in the shower though. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Lost in Translation (2003) Actors: Catharine Lambert (Singer) Francois Du Bois (Piano) Tim Leffman (Guitar) Songs you might remember: Scarborough Fair Why you should vote for them: This was an excellent film. Why you should not vote…

Scrantonocity

While watching Kevin Malone in the American version of the Office, it is difficult to believe that he has the skills to be a drummer of a band of any kind. Still, lovable and dimwitted Kevin is the drummer and singer of Scranton, Pennsylvania’s top Police cover band; Scrantonicity. We can’t say that it makes this group a top contender for our Hall of Fame, but many remember them which is more than many other cover bands out there. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: The Office (2007) Actors: Brian Baumgartner (Kevin Malone) A few others who we don’t know…

Scum of the Earth

From one of the most acclaimed Sitcoms of all time, WKRP in Cincinnati, the struggling radio station sponsored their first concert since they switched their format to Rock and Roll. That band, was the eccentric, Scum of the Earth; who refused to perform, sabotaged an interview and were overall major pains in the ass. Michael Des Barres, who was in Scum, had his band Detective, provided the actual music, and lovers of WKRP (which we suspect are many) will probably give this one a few votes. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: WKRP in Cincinnati (1978) Actors: Michael Des Barres…

Sex as a Weapon

Maybe the House Party series should have stopped at two. House Party 3 was panned by the critics, avoided by the viewers and forgotten by everyone. In the third film, Play tried to become a promoter and took on a hardcore all female rap group called “Sex as a Weapon” played by TLC. As mentioned, the film stunk, though this was not really the fault of TLC; they just cashed a paycheck.           The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: House Party 3 (1994) Actors: TLC Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for them: TLC was an important act…

Sex Bob-omb

We make no apologies, as we aren’t always able to keep our personal feelings aside. With that we admit we will never understand the appeal for anyone in Michael Cera to make him a movie lead. As the doofus kid in Arrested Development, yes, as a leading man…we don’t get it. With that said, there was a time when he was not just a successful leading man, but a successful one; mainly because he always had the perfect role for his skill set. One example was when he was cast as Scott Pilgrim in the movie adaptation from the popular…

Sexy Lingerie

You will have to indulge this nominee for us. The plot for this very episode 1980’s episode of the Facts of Life, saw young Andy enter the girls into a singing contest where the prize was meeting (El DeBarge). Why that was his dream is anyone’s guess, but through the magic of the world of situation comedies, it happened and we saw the girls “backup” sing to “You Wear it Well”. Frankly it is an image we can never forget…no matter how hard we tried. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: The Facts of Life (1985) Actors: Lisa Whelchel (Blair…

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

Dear God, spare us from having to write up this piece of stink. Sadly, this is not referring to the Beatles Album as technically they never adopted any other persona so they don’t really qualify here. No, this is film adaptation that really nobody asked for, and frankly trying to recap the plot gives us a headache. Basically, we have Billy Shears (Peter Frampton) who somehow recruits his friends the Henderson Brothers (The Bee Gees) to form his band. Confused yet? Either way, watching the film won’t resolve any unanswered questions. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts…

Sharon Apple

From the Anime Macross Series we have Sharon Apple, a computer generated hologram singer. Rather than go into great detail as to what she is all about, we will say this: If you know the series, you are a fan, and if you have no idea what this is about, even trying to explain it will be pointless.   Let’s see how well this entry does! The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Macross (1982-83) Macross Plus (1994) Actors: N/A Songs you might remember: Santi-U Why you should vote for her: For Anime fans this is the only nominee, and probably the…

Sharpay and Ryan Evans

In another entry on the ballot that we guess qualifies (and we are stretching this we admit) we have Sharpay and Ryan Evans, were the diva like brother and sister team from the very profitable High School Musical trilogy who were looking to make it as singers. Well, they sang a lot in the series, so this should qualify right? The Bullet Points: Movies Appeared: High School Musical (2006) High School Musical 2 (2007) High School Musical 3: Senior Year (2008) Actors: Ashley Tisdale Lucas Grabeel Songs you might remember: Breaking Free I Want it All Bop to the Top…

Shasta McNasty

Shasta McNasty was basically an updated version of the Monkees where the interracial Rap/Rock trio was constantly getting into wacky adventures. Unlike the Monkees, we did not hear much of their music, and again unlike the Monkees, nobody watched it as it was cancelled after once season.           The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Shasta McNasty (1999-2000) Actors: Jake Busey (Dennis) Carmine Giovinazzo (Scott) Dale Godboldo (Randy) Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for them: The best reason we have as how much Jake Busey looks like his dad, Gary. Seriously, that is the best we got.…

Shower of Power

Admittedly, we really don’t think this should even be considered, but if you took a look at our Fictitious Athlete Hall of Fame, you can tell that we love the White Shadow, so when they formed a group based on their singing Motown songs in the shower and tried to get radio play, we couldn’t help but nominate them.   The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: The White Shadow (1981) Actors: Byron Stewart (Warren Coolidge) Kevin Hooks (Morris Thorpe) Timothy Van Patten (Mario “Salami” Pettrino) Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for them: Really you shouldn’t. If…

Shy

Come on, we couldn’t have just one band with a Werewolf on the ballot could we? From the TV Series, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, we have Shy; another band who made appearances at the Bronze. The lead singer, Veruca, met with an untimely end by the other werewolf (Oz) of course. The music was by real band, THC. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1999) Actors: Paige Moss (Veruca) THC Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for them: We kind of thought that the lead singer was cute…when she wasn’t a werewolf. Why…

Sideboob

From the hit Netflix series, Orange is the New Black, we learn that future warden, Joe Caputo once had rock and roll dreams but continues to plug away in a bar band called Sideboob. Playing Jersey style rock, Caputo and company aren’t likely to make it, but it is worth noting that his backup band are a legit indie band called Adopted Highways who would collaborate with “Caputo” to put out an EP.              The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Orange is the New Black (2013-) Actor:Nick Sandow Songs you might remember:None Why you should vote for them:Isn’t there…

Simone

Perhaps this film was ahead of its time. From the film of the same name, Simone was a virtual creation in response to the issues of the selfish actress. Created by Viktor Taransky (Al Pacino) Simone becomes not only an acting star, but a singer who sold out a stadium (through the use of holographic technology) and thus qualifies as a nominee here. The film did not do well, but had it came out a few years later, it might have received an audience. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: S1m0ne (1998) Actor: Rachel Roberts Songs you might remember: None Why…

Sir Smoke-a-Lot

Dave Chappelle played two roles, the smaller of which saw him as the Rapper, Sir Smoke-a-Lot, which as the name suggests, was a heavy advocate of cannabis. Because we did not see him rap that much (or maybe because we ourselves were partaking when we watched this movie and don’t remember) it is hard for us to make too strong a case for this character, even if it is Dave Chappelle.   The Bullet Points:   Movie Appeared: Half Baked (1998) Actor: Dave Chappelle Songs you might remember: Samson Gets Me Lifted Why you should vote for him: This is not exactly…

Skinny Black

Played by real rapper, Ludacris, Skinny Black was a successful Rap star from Memphis who has returned to his hometown over the July 4th Weekend. He is approached by DJay, a local pimp in the hopes of presenting his demo tape, which after he received he flushed down the toilet and after being confronted about it, informed the wannabe rapper that he never intended to do anything with it and he got pistol whipped because of it. Maybe he should have listened to the tape! The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Hustle & Flow (2005) Actor: Ludacris Songs you might remember:…

Snowed Out

Played by No Doubt, they were “Snowed Out” (get it?) in an episode of Gossip Girl. What was their role? It was to play an 80’s band doing a comeback of sorts...or we think. OK, we will admit that we never saw Gossip Girl and it was through research that we ever found out that this existed. Still, that show was a hit, which means some of you watched this right? The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Gossip Girl (2009) Actors: No Doubt Songs you might remember: Stand and Deliver Why you should vote for them: It was a real…

Sonny Mann

From both the network and syndicated version of “It’s A Living”, we have someone who may be below a lounge singer. Sonny Mann (Paul Kreppel) was a horrible piano player/singer who stunk it up at the top of the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles. Does that grant him a Hall of Fame entry? Probably not, but we liked looking at his co-workers!           The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: It’s A Living (1980-82 & 1985-89) Actor: Paul Kreppel Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for him: He was around a lot of hot waitresses. Why you should…

Sons of Thunder

Played by the Galactic Cowboys, the Sons of Thunder had a brief role in the cult film, Airheads where they played a band that made it after they were helped out by a radio station. The role was not big, but was essential to the plot. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Airheads (1994) Actors: The Galactic Cowboys Songs you might remember: Don’t Hate Me Because I’m Beautiful Why you should vote for them: This has become a cult of a cult film. Does this mean something? Why you should not vote for them: The lone song is not even available…

Sound Mound

From 30 Rock, we were treated to a brief performance of “Sound Mound” a band of limited ability, though in their lone episode they managed to secure an album, a music video and about 5,000 T-shirts. Does this make a Fictitious Hall of Fame act? Probably not, but our crush on Tina Fey says it might. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: 30 Rock (2011) Actors: Scott Adsit (Pete Hornberger, Guitar) Judah Friedlander (Frank Rossitano, Keyboards) Songs you might remember: Weekend Woman Why you should vote for them: We know that Tina Fey wasn’t in the band, but just her…

Sparkle Anderson

To be clear, this entry refers to the 2012 version, which starred former American Idol winner, Jordin Sparks. As the lead character, Sparkle Anderson, Sparks was able to showcase her singing voice multiple times with the implication that she was going to make it big at the end. The movie is pure formula, but it did what it needed to do, and in the opinion of many worked very well. Depending on how this film ages, and the potential success of the lead actress, we could have a future entry to the Fictitious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame here.…

Stacee Jaxx

The votes and comments on this one should be fascinating. The reviews of Tom Cruises’ performance as Stacee Jaxx were not exactly consistent. Many praised Cruise, as he looked the part of an 80’s Rock Star and also complimented his respectable singing; a talent many did not know he had. Others painted him as a cheesy caricature in a film that took the worst music of the decade and sunk it to another level. Which is right? That if for you to decide! The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Rock of Ages (2012) Actor: Tom Cruise Songs you might remember: A…

Steel Dragon

Based on the real life scenario that took place with Judas Priest, Chris Cole (Mark Wahlberg) went from fronting a Steel Dragon tribute band, to fronting Steel Dragon. The film did very poorly, yet it is one of those movies that everyone seems to have seen, indicating that this is a guilty pleasure for many. Perhaps it was because the songs were basic, or that is well cast, or that it is one of those comfort films that you can have on the background while you are doing housework. We would not be surprised to see this get in one…

Stella Summers

We wonder if we are the only ones who forgot that Elliott Gould was a major star in the 1970’s? In 1981, he starred in the “Devil and Max Devlin” where as Devlin he played a shady landlord who is killed and sent to Hell. He is given a proposition that should he convince three people to sell his soul, he would relieved of his soul belonging to the devil. One of his targets is Stella Summers, an aspiring 18 year old singer looking to get ahead, making her an easy target. We did hear her sing, but realistically the…
