The Artists

Red Stovall

As great an actor as Clint Eastwood (we will argue that successful as he was that he was criminally underrated) we wanted to only watch him shoot people and kick ass. As such, nobody really wanted to see Clint as Red Stovall, a dying country singer whose goal was to play the Grand Ole Opry before he passed away. Although this was far from a hit, it did receive solid critical acclaim, and if you can forget that this is Dirty Harry, it is worth watching. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Honky Tonk Man (1982) Actor: Clint Eastwood Songs you…

Reggie Wanker

From the early 80’s cult film, “Get Crazy” we have a series of bands who played at the fictitious Saturn Theatre (modeled after the famous Filmore East) for their 15th New Year’s Eve Show. The main event of the night was Reggie Wanker (Malcolm McDowell) who was Rock and Roll excess all the way, with his over the top stage persona, drug and alcohol consumption and love of women. His pairing with his Drummer, Toad (played by John Densmore of the Doors) also led to some nice comedic work; but what else would we expect from McDowell? The Bullet Points:…

Rembrandt Brown

Rembrandt “Cryin’ Man” Brown was so named for his ability to cry real tears on command during his performances. He involuntary gets sucked into a sliding vortex (while he was in on his way to perform the National Anthem at a San Francisco Giants game) and along with three scientists where they travel from one parallel Earth to another. Although he started off as a supporting character, he was the only one to be in all five seasons, and in the last season, he was the focal point of the show. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Sliders (1994-2000) Actor:…

Reverend Sherman Boyce "The Voice" Ballantine

A spin off of Hot in Cleveland, “The Soul Man” follows Sherman Boyce “The Voice” Ballantine who was a former R&B star who was living it up in Las Vegas who somehow receives the calling to return to the church and become a minister at his father’s church. We have always like Cedric the Entertainer, though we don’t know if this is his best work, or even something that addresses music enough to earn him an induction. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: The Soul Man (2012-) Actor: Cedric the Entertainer Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for…

Rex Manning

From a film that was pegged to be a hit (until people saw it), Empire Records, we have a visit from Rex Manning, a teen idol turned has been who appears at the store to do an autograph signing. Really, he is there for there to be jokes at his expense, as he comes off as a douche and as this is a film with a strong tie in to music, they needed someone to look down on. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Empire Records (1995) Actor: Maxwell Caulfield Songs you might remember: Say No More (Mon Amour) Why you…

Richie Cunningham's Band

Was that the name of the band? We have no real idea, but we know that Richie Cunningham, Potsie Weber and Ralph Malph (and rotating drummers) could be seen often playing at Arnold’s, despite they had the lamest Rock and Roll look (even for the 50’s) and their lead singer (Potsie) sang like Pat Boone. We guess that when you are friends with Fonzie, you must get a lot of gigs.   The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Happy Days (1974-80) Actors: Ron Howard Anson Williams Donny Most Songs you might remember: Countless 50’s covers. Why you should vote for…

Ricki and the Flash

Can Meryl Streep do wrong? The answer is no. The goddess of acting appears at a late 50’s rocker chick still looking for a big break but realistically in nothing more than a bar band. Streep’s range gives us sadness, comedy and pathos better than anyone and damned of we didn’t want Ricki and the Flash to have been successful had we been able to change the fictional rock past.              The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Ricki and the Flash (2015) Actor:Meryl Streep Songs you might remember:Multiple Why you should vote for them:Two words: Meryl Streep Why you should…

Ricky and Liv Dean

The movie Duets was not a hit, but it did teach us that Gwyneth Paltrow could actually sing, that there is a karaoke circuit with hustlers, and that based on box office returns nobody cared about those facts. If we are wrong, then perhaps you can vote for the father daughter team of Ricky (Huey Lewis) and Liv Dean (Gwyneth Paltrow) who are the main acts of the film.   The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Duets (2000) Actors: Huey Lewis (Ricky Dean) Liv (Gwyneth Paltrow) Songs you might remember: Cruisin’ Why you should vote for them: Their singing was actually pretty…

Ricky Ricardo

The backbone of every “I Love Lucy” episode was the antics of Lucille Ball and what zany antics she would get herself in. Sometimes, it might involve her husband, the Cuban born bandleader, Ricky Ricardo, and once in a while we would see his musical prowess. We aren’t sure where a Cuban calypso singer falls into the Fictitious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but this is one of the most iconic Sitcoms of all time. Does this not help? The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: I Love Lucy (1951-57) Actor: Desi Arnaz Songs you might remember: Babalu Why you…

Riley Jackson

On the Cosby Show, Elvin and Theo attend a concert by Blues Man, Riley Jackson (B.B. King) the youngsters return back to the house only to find that Riley is a long time friend of their grandparents (of course he is) and we have another episode where Bill Cosby tells us subconsciously that the music he likes is better than anything else. Luckily, the music Bill likes is pretty good; although we liked his cameo in Spies Like Us much better. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: The Cosby Show (1990) Actor: B.B. King Songs you might remember: None Why…

Rita LaFleur

Who knew that Grandpa Simpson had a previous fling! Rita LaFleur (Anika Noni-Rose) was apparently an early love of Abe and was a singer at a club where he played piano. As they were reunited, it turned out that Rita still pined over Grandpa Simpson for all these years. Funny, we never pictured the old man having it in him! The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: The Simpsons (2012) Actor: Anika Noni-Rose Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for her: Only for the Simpsons factor. Why you should not vote for her: From the music of Springfield…

Robbie Hart

In what we thought was one of Adam Sandler’s better films, he played Robbie Hart, a kind hearted wedding singer whose real goal is to write songs. He sang quite a bit in the film, gave us new material and chummed up with Billy Idol in the film’s final act leading us to believe that he might make it as a successful songwriter. We may have just talked ourselves into pushing for this induction. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: The Wedding Singer (1998) Actor: Adam Sandler Songs you might remember: You Spin Me Round Grow Old With You Why you…

Robin Gantner

Wait a minute…this is an Elvis Presley movie, where he doesn’t play a singer? That role fell to Stella Stevens who played a stuck up club singer named Robin Gantner in Girls, Girls, Girls.   Sadly, what works against Robin is that none of the music she recorded is worth remembering. It should be noted that one of Elvis’ great songs, “Return to Sender” is on the soundtrack. Too bad, he doesn’t qualify for this one. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Girls, Girls, Girls! (1962) Actor: Stella Stevens Songs you might remember: None from this candidate Why you should vote for…

Robin Sparkles

Before she was a news anchor in New York City, Robin Scherbatsky was a teen star in her native Canada as Robin Sparkles. It may not be well known that this was a play on the real life Alanis Morissette who had a brief career as a teen pop queen in Canada, before her image and sound were completely overhauled. Sparkles had a few minor hits (“Let’s Go to the Mall”) that naturally had a year long mall tour and an artistic turn with “Sandcastles in the Sand”. What was far more humorous was when she teamed with Jessica Glitter…

Rockula

Normally we can’t stop watching cheese, but we admittedly fast forwarded through most of “Rockula”, which starred 80’s staple Dean Cameron (since this was in 1990, he had passed his expiration). Cameron played a 400 year old vampire virgin who became a rock singer. Why did he want to be a singer? We fast forwarded it so we don’t have a clue. Somehow, we doubt it matters.    The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Rockula (1990) Actor: Dean Cameron Songs you might remember: He’s Rockula Why you should vote for him: This is the best 400 year old vampire turned rock…

Rod Torfulson’s Armada Featuring Herman Menderchuk

Armada was a garage band on The Kids in the Hall who strived to “make it”, despite having no discernable talent. As a recurring sketch on the Canadian show, we knew they really didn’t have a shot, even when Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes made an appearance on the series finale. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: The Kids in the Hall (1988-94) Actors: Bruce McCullough (Rod Torfulson, Drums) Mark McKinney (Heman Menderchuk, Bass) Kevin McDonald (Lead Guitar) Songs you might remember: Trampoline Girl Why you should vote for them: This was one of the better recurring sketches on…

Ross Geller

This is not a misprint. Some of our favorite episodes in the megahit, Friends, are where we learn of Ross Geller’s “musical ability”. In flashback episodes, it is implied that Geller looks to become a musician while performing on his keyboard. He did have a gig at Central Perk, where everyone believed he stunk; except for Phoebe who was actually concerned that he was a threat. That may seem incomprehensible, but remember on this show he got Rachel. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Friends (1994-2004) Actor: David Schwimmer Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for him:…

Rowlf the Dog

In what would be the first Muppet of note (seriously, check it out) Rowlf the Dog was the piano playing dog of Muppet fame. Personally, he was a favorite of ours with his combination of sarcasm and talent, and we could easily imagine him playing the Vegas circuit. Actually, he would probably be more entertaining than some of the lounge singers we saw there. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: The Muppet Show (1976-80) Actors: Various Songs you might remember: Surprisingly, there are none Why you should vote for him: Wow…this dog was so likable. Ruttling Orange Peel

According to the Mockumentary, “All You Need is Cash”, The Rutles were inspired by Mississippi Blues Man, Ruttling Orange Peel; at least so he says. Of course, since he also claims that Lawrence Welk, Frank Sinatra and the Everly Brothers also ripped him off, perhaps we can only take his claims so far. The Bullet Points:   Movie Appeared: All You Need is Cash (1978) Actor: Bob Gibson Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for him: Look who he inspired! Why you should not vote for him: This was a small role, and inspiring Lawrence Welk is nothing…

Sadgasm

In the revoling timeline of the Simpsons, we learn that Homer was the front man for a Grunge band named Sadgasm that was for all intents and purposes a Nirvana knock off which was evident by the songs they had. Homer’s sadness was inspired by watching his beloved Marge fall for a College Professor and he transformed his former New Jack Swing band into a mopey, flannel hand, floppy haired group.   Only in Springfield do the laws of time not work, and only there would we not care. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: The Simpsons (2008) Actors: Dan Castanaletta…

Sadie Flood

In the very good (though rarely seen) independent film, Georgia, Jennifer Jason Leigh delivers as always as the younger sister of a successful folk singer. Leigh’s character is a gritty bar singer with a bit of a Punk Rock look, and definitely with the attitude to match. The acting here is solid, and the music decent. Had this achieved a larger audience, this could have been a decent contender for our Hall of Fame.    The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Georgia (1995) Actor: Jennifer Jason Leigh Songs you might remember: Take Me Back Why you should vote for her: The…

Sally Kendoo

American Dreamz tried to be a decent parody of reality television, and specifically American Idol, but it did not exactly hit the mark. That was not the fault of Mandy Moore who did an admirable job as the fame hungry, Sally Kendoo who enters the competition for shallow reasons. Moore can at least sing the part, which gives her a pass somewhat; and as she didn’t write the part, she gets a pass the rest of the way. Now, was she cute enough to get into this Hall despite the bad material? Probably not.    The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared:…

Samurai Apocalypse

Played by former Wu-Tang Member and musical genius, RZA, Samurai Apocalypse had a brief storyline arc on Californication, where he was a Gangsta Rap mogul who hired Hank Moody to pen some lyrics. Moody could write, but if you have seen this show you already know what Hank did with Samurai’s love interest. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Californication (2011) Actor: RZA Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for him: Our best argument is that this is the RZA, and that is enough alone. Why you should not vote for him: There was little music from…
