  • Bobby Bowden’s first high-profile job in college football was in 1966 when he became West Virginia’s offensive coordinator. He was promoted to their head coach in 1970, serving in that capacity for six years, and following his win at the 1975 Peach Bowl, Bowden joined Florida State as their head coach.

Before Bowden, Florida State had never won a national title, but the narrative and culture transformed under Bowden. Serving as the Seminoles head coach from 1976 to 2009 and under his tenure, Florida State became a national power. He would lead them to two National Championships (1993 & 1999) and a dozen ACC Titles. It was an unprecedented run of success for the Seminoles, and it moved Florida State from a middle-of-the-road team to a national contender.

We are proud to nominate Bobby Bowden for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
