Jim Boeheim's association with Syracuse dates back to 1963 when he was first recruited to play at guard. When Boeheim's playing career ended, he became an assistant coach, and seven years later, in 1976, he was at the top of the Orange coaching food chain. As we are writing this in 2021, he still is.
Boeheim led Syracuse to five Final Fours and won it all in 2003 when he had Carmelo Anthony. Under Boeheim, Syracuse's basketball program rose to national prominence, and he was named the College Coach of the Year in 2010 by multiple organizations.
Boeheim’s work with Syracuse is matched by what he did for the United States as an assistant coach. In that capacity, Boeheim aided the Americans to win three Olympic Gold Medals, two FIBA World Championships, and a FIBA Americas Championship. That is a legacy of excellence that few can match.
