The Artists

Meg and the Griffins

In one of the few “Megcentric” episodes of Family Guy, Meg receives a makeover where her new found hotness takes her to the lead of her family’s singing group (a la Partridge Family) which resulted in a hit (Gonna Buy Me A Rainbow) and a musical performance on Saturday Night Live. For us, the most memorable part was when Peter Griffin beat the snot out of Jimmy Fallon for mugging for the camera (we were glad someone finally did), as opposed to the success of the band. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Family Guy (2005) Actors: Mila Kunis (Meg…

Michigan J. Frog

For appearing in only one Looney Tunes sketch, Michigan J. Frog was sure remembered. He was in a box and unearthed by a construction worker who found that he could sing 1920’s songs with a booming voice; that is only when he was alone with the worker. When he tries to cash in, the frog just croaked and he was buried again only to be uncovered by another construction worker in the future. When the WB (Warner Brothers) formed a network, it was the Michigan J. Frog (we aren’t sure if that is when he got his name) who was…

Mick Jagged and the Stones

A very lame parody from a very lame prequel to the Flintstones, “Mick Jagged and the Stones” was a band that played at the Tardust Casino. Dear God, was this the best that they could do? Based on the Flintstones cartoon, yes it was! Still, we have a Duran Duran member in the band, which is all we needed to put this on the ballot. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas (2000) Actors: Alan Cumming (Mick Jagged) John Taylor (Keith Rockhard) Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for them: John Taylor was…

Mike Windgren

Elvis Presley movies don’t exactly have a lot of legacy and “Fun in Acapulco” is a perfect example of one that is forgotten. Rather than go into detail about the plot, let’s just say that this was not one of the better films and that there were no signature songs from it. It does not help that this was released right at the time of the British Invasion, and this became irrelevant very quickly. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Fun in Acapulco (1963) Actor: Elvis Presley Songs you might remember: Bossa Nova Baby Why you should vote for him: Only…

Ming Tea

From the first Austin Powers movie, Austin (Mike Myers) fronted Ming Tea, the 60’s Psychedelic band that closed the film with their rendition of “BBC”. This was consider by many (and us included) to be Myers’ best role, and we love anything involving our favorite Bangle, Susanna Hoffs, who was the lead guitarist. Austin Powers was one of the most quoted characters in film history, so do we have a dark horse candidate here? The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997) Actors: Mike Myers (Austin Powers, Lead Singer) Matthew Sweet (Sid Belvedere, Bass & Backup…

Miss Piggy

We can definitely argue that this counts. She was originally to be named Miss Piggy Lee, and she was a diva before anyone was using the word. She acted, she sang, and she was always a star. Considering how often this plush pig sang and performed, this seems like a relevant entry on the ballot to us. The Bullet Points: TV Show and Movies Appeared: The Muppet Show (1976-81) The Muppet Movie (1979) The Great Muppet Caper (1981) The Muppets Take Manhattan (1984) The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) Muppet Treasure Island (1996) Muppets from Space (1999) The Muppets (2011) Muppets…

Mitch and Mickey

In the mockumentary, A Mighty Wind, we could argue that the scene-stealers were Mitch (Eugene Levy) and Mickey Crabbe (Catharine O’Hara) who were a couple in music and a couple in love outside of it. They had a series of albums, but a tumultuous breakup between the two makes their reunion all that more fascinating for the concert at the end of the film. What makes them a strong candidate also is that one of their songs (A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow) became the signature hit of the flick, which was a beautiful song, and was nominated…

Mitchie Torres

Camp Rock was a major success for Disney Television as it successfully used the top Boy Band at the time (The Jonas Brothers) to launch a new star in Demi Lovato. The young singer plays, Mitchie Torres, who in true Disney fashion has a dream to sing but can’t afford to attend “Camp Rock”. As this is a Disney story, we think you know how things worked out. The Bullet Points: TV Movies Appeared: Camp Rock (2008) Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam (2010) Actor: Demi Lovato Songs you might remember: This is Me Why you should vote for her:…

Moloch

We have admitted before and we will admit again. We are a sucker for Gene Simmons rip offs especially if they are on a cheesy and well-known television show. Now add the fact that the character, Moloch is played by Donny Most who was Ralph Malph on Happy Days, hidden messages on an album and Erik Estrada, you have a real winner! The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: CHiPs (1982) Actor: Donny Most Songs you might remember: Devil Take Me Why you should vote for him: Does Erik Estrada help here? Why you should not vote for him: It was…

Moop

We only got a glimpse of the horrible garage sound of Moop, which consisted of the four main children of South Park, but it was evident that they were pretty bad. After Cartman leaves the group, the remaining members download songs for free off the internet to gather inspiration. In true satirical fashion, they are arrested by the FBI and learn of how they are making millionaire musicians a little lighter in their wallet. What does Moop do when they learn of this atrocity? They refuse to play, which become National news and they are joined by other famous acts…

Motherboy

All we saw from Motherboy was a brief snapshot that suspiciously looked liked the Bluth family. The narrator, who also suspiciously sounded like the guy who played Richie Cunningham, told us that they were big in the 70’s. Somehow, with only one picture to go on, we think we could come up with a reason to vote for them. Seriously, take a look at that picture and tell us we are wrong! The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Arrested Development (2005) Actors: Jason Bateman Jeffery Tambor Will Arnett David Cross Michael Cera Songs you might remember: None Why you should…

Mouse Rat

From the somewhat underappreciated show, Parks and Recreation, we have a band with their own website and a seemingly endless series of past names. Mouse Rat is led by Andy Dwyer (Chris Pratt) and is doing well in Pawnee, Indiana; which may not say a lot about their overall success. Still, they are entertaining, have unique songs and could be a dark horse candidate for the Hall. We might consider them just for the series of cool former names they had: Scarecrow Boat Malice in Chains Punch Face Champion Flames for Flames The Andy Andy Andys Andy and the D-Bags…

Munchausen by Proxy

Allowing the quirky, yet super cute and talented Zooey Deschanel to showcase her singing chops, Munchausen by Proxy was an eccentric band that had a very small but devoted audience. Deschanel was backed by the real band, Von Iva, and had four songs on the soundtrack. If quirky is what this Hall is about, than pencil them in right now.           The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Yes Man (2008) Actor: Zooey Deschanel (Allison) Von Iva (Backing Band) Songs you might remember: Yes Man Why you should vote for them: Music may not have been a big part of the film,…

Murph and the Magic Tones

We didn’t hear much of Murph and the Magic Tones, but our brief viewing of them at a Holiday Inn lounge told us that they would always be better off Joliet Jake and Elwood, even if they weren’t making any money. The Bullet Points: Movies Appeared: The Blues Brothers (1980) Actors: Murphy Dunne Tom “Bones” Malone Willie “Too Big” Hall Steve “The Colonel” Cropper Donald “Duck” Dunn Songs you might remember: Quando, Quando, Quando Why you should vote for them: They were part of the Blues Brothers, which should count for a lot. Why you should not vote for them:…

Mystere

Dyan Cannon still looked great in her late 40’s, and was cast as a housewife turned pop star in Rock and Roll Mom. Through a turn of events, she cuts a demo record, and the producers thought it was too good not to promote; though not by a 49 year old unknown. Even though she was still gorgeous, Rock is a young person’s game and they put a mask on her, dubbed her “Mystere” and she took her rockin’ body on the road. This wasn’t a great film, but it was cute for what it was. The Bullet Points: TV…

Mystik Spiral

From the MTV animated series, Daria, we have the alternative rock band Mystik Spiral. The band made a brief appearance in one episode but proved popular enough to make regular appearances throughout the series. They don’t come across as a success, though they constantly seem to get gigs, had their own website and even a fan club. The question here is how popular Daria is with those who visit here. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Daria (1997-2001) Actors: Alvaro J. Gonzalez (Trent Lane, Lead Vocals) Unknown Voice (Jesse Moreno, Lead Guitar) Unknown Voice (Max Tyler, Drums) Unknown Voice (Nicholas…

Nada Featuring Piggy

From the early 80’s cult film, “Get Crazy” we have a series of bands who played at the fictitious Saturn Theatre (modeled after the famous Filmore East) for their 15th New Year’s Eve Show. Nada was one of the main acts, and the fifteen people in her back up band literally ran the spectrum of every alternative musical genre you could think that was associated with this time period. Her act was supported by Piggy, who was a hardcore Punk act (played by Fear’s Lee Ving, who were themselves about as hardcore it got at the time) and we saw…

Nature's Children

From the underappreciated concept album (The Turtles present the Battle of the Bands) by the Turtles we have an album where different “bands” appeared. This allowed the group to not only stretch their skills musically, as each “band” had a completely different sound and also showcase their humor. As “Nature’s Children”, the Turtles performed “You Showed Me”, which was a very good Pop song, and arguably the most memorable of the album (though it was not the biggest hit). Still, we wish the band name they chose for this song was as clever as some of the others they went…

Nick Cooper

A once successful American Rock singer looks to an English country house to escape his issues (failed career and failed marriage) and work on a career comeback. Of course this means…we have a horror movie about to unfold. The casting was good as the lead (Jack Jones) had not had a hit in a decade; though he would have his final one three years later with (seriously) the Love Boat Theme. We could induct him for that cheesy fact alone. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: The Comeback (1978) Actor: Jack Jones Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote…

Nick Rivers

From the creators of “Airplane”, Top Secret was a laugh a minute spoof that parodies Cold War movies as well as it roasted Elvis Presley films. Val Kilmer starred as Nick Rivers, the film’s main protagonist and 50’s singing teen idol that arrives in East Germany for a concert and winds up associated with the French Resistance. Sounds like a plausible series of events don’t you think? The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Top Secret! (1984) Actor: Val Kilmer Songs you might remember: Are You Lonesome Tonight? Spend This Night With Me Baby Please Why you should vote for him: This…

Nick the Lounge Singer

As we were creating the ballot, we have been amazed just how many lounge singers we found. We always say though that a lounge act is a hard sell for the Fictitious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but what if it was Bill Murray as Nick the Lounge Singer? This was one of the classic characters from the early days for the show and it killed every time. If there is one lounge singer that could get in, could this be the one? The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Saturday Night Live (1976-80) Actor: Bill Murray Songs you might…

Niggas Without Hats

It may have been praised by the critics, but the movie going public were oblivious to “Fear of a Black Hat”, which was a mockumentary of the Rap world, and a great satire at that. For whatever reason, it never took off, but might be worth a look by a viewing audience, though we doubt it will ever gain any serious traction here. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Fear of A Black Hat (1994) Actors: Rusty Cundieff (Ice Cold) Larry B. Scott (Tasty Taste) Mark Christopher Lawrence (Tone Def) Songs you might remember: Booty Juice Why you should vote for…

No Vacancy

This was the original band of Dewey Finn (Jack Black) in the successful comedy, “School of Rock”. Dewey was kicked out of the group when his over indulgent and quasi-hyperactive antics proved to be too much. His replacement led them to be a favorite in the Battle of the Bands, though Dewey had something to say about that! The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: School of Rock (2003) Actors: Jack Black (Dewey Finn) Adam Pascal Lucas Babin Lucas Papaelias Shawn Rodney Songs you might remember: Heal Me I’m Heartsick Why you should vote for them: Watching Jack Black at his hyperactive…
