2023 Fictitious Rock and Roll Contributors -- Final Round

Venus Flytrap

Venus Flytrap
  • Contest: 2023 Fictitious Rock and Roll Contributors -- Final Round
  • From W.K.R.P. in Cincinnati, we have nighttime D.J. Venus Flytrap, a former teacher and part-time D.J. who reinvents himself somewhat in Southern Ohio with a flashy wardrobe and smooth sounding style complete with windchimes and the occasional gong.
The only African-American on the show, this might seem stereotypical to call him the soul of the show, but in multiple episodes, it is more than evident that this is the case. Flytrap is one of the most level-headed and intelligent characters on the program, and frankly, we always wished there were more Venus stories. Flytrap, who was allowed to program his own material, pushed a platform of smooth R&B, and with all due respect to his workmate, Dr. Johnny Fever, has a setlist that doesn't seem to age.
One thing we never did understand is how did Venus and Johnny always hang out, and when their shifts were six hours apart?
  • TV Show/Movie Appeared: W.K.R.P. in Cincinnati (1978-82)
