Connie Mack saw Earnshaw pitch for the Baltimore Orioles of the International League, and he pulled the trigger to secure his services. The man they called “Moose” due to his large frame joined the Athletics on June 1, 1928, and he finished the season with a 7-7 record. In 1929, Mack's A's team was very talented, and Earnshaw would lead the AL in Wins with 24. He helped them win the World Series that year, and would win 22 and 21 Games in the two seasons that followed. 1930 was exceptionally fulfilling, as Philadelphia repeated as World Series Champion, and he won two Games in the post-season with a 0.72 ERA.
Earnshaw won 19 Games in 1932, but he had a poor 1933 with a 5-10 record and an ERA of 5.97. He was traded to the Chicago White Sox after the season, and as an Athletic, he had a record of 98-58. He would later be selected for the Philadelphia Baseball Wall of Fame in 2000.
