  • Mike Modano was the first overall pick in the 1988 NHL Draft by the Minnesota North Stars, making him the second American to be taken with the top selection. The Native of Michigan would become their best player, and as the franchise relocated to Dallas, becoming the Stars, he was not only the face of the team, he became the face of American hockey and the catalyst for the growth of the sport in Texas and surrounding areas.

Modano led Dallas to their first Stanley Cup win in 1999, and he would be a seven-time all-star, and he was a member of the U.S. Olympic Team that won a Silver in the 2002 Salt Lake City Games. Modano is currently the all-time scoring leader amongst Americans in the NHL.

We are proud to nominate Mike Modano for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
