  • Walter “Big Train” Johnson was an elite Pitcher who was one of the first five players elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Johnson played all 21 of his seasons in the Majors with the Washington Senators, where he was the premier flamethrower of his day. The first player to reach 3,000 strikeouts, Johnson led the American League in that category 12 times and is the only player to have at least 3,000 strikeouts and 400 wins.

Johnson is the all-time leader in shutouts (110) and is second in wins (417) and third in innings pitched (5,914.1). In the modern climate of Baseball, no other pitcher will approach that mark.

We are proud to nominate Walter Johnson for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
