  • Winning five Gold Medals at the 1978 World Championships, Tracy Caulkins was predicted to have an outstanding 1980 Olympics in Moscow. The American boycott of the games protesting the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan cost Caulkins that opportunity.

Caulkins continued to swim at a high level, though she only won two Bronze Medals at the 1982 Worlds. The Soviet Union retaliated by boycotting the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, but Caulkins finally had her opportunity to win Gold in the Olympics. She achieved that dream by winning the 200 m and 400 m individual medley and a third in 4x100 m medley.

Later in life, Caulkins married Australian swimmer Mark Stockwell and became a dual citizen. She was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for her work in promoting sports for women in Australia.

We are proud to nominate Tracy Caulkins for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
