  • One of the most effortless statements to make in football coaching is that Eddie Robinson was the most successful ever in historically black colleges. You can (and we will) go a step further and say that he was among the best ever.

At age 22, Robinson was hired to coach Grambling, and he stayed in that capacity until 1997. Robinson took the school forgotten institution to a SWAC power, and he won nine black college national titles and 17 SWAC titles. At the time of his retirement, Robinson’s 408 wins were third all-time.

Notably, Robinson also was Grambling’s men’s head basketball coach from 1943 to 1956.

We are proud to nominate Eddie Robinson for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
