  • Representing Italy, Carlo Fassi won two European Titles (1953 & 1954) and would later coach Italy by the decade's end. In 1961, the majority of the U.S. figure skating team and coaches were killed in a plane crash when they were making their way to the World Championship in Prague. Fassi, who had already established himself as a top coach, moved to the United States and was an integral part of Americans' success.

Fassi was a technical wizard and knew what judges wanted to see. He worked with Peggy Fleming and Dorothy Hamill, two of the most important women in American figure skating, and he also worked with Scott Hamilton in the early part of his career.

While he coaches competitors from all over the world, Fassi’s work with Americans at the Olympics earned him a spot in the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame.

We are proud to nominate Carlo Fassi for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
